I just submitted a bug report to Blizzard. How do I tell if they've
received or responded to it?

I'm afraid you don't. If you're on US servers you can post on the bug
report forum which might get a response from a customer service rep;
on EU, the ingame form is your only option, and you'll never know if
they've listened or not, until/unless the bug gets fixed.

In fairness, with 5 million+ players, I can see why they don't get
individual responses but it's still a bit annoying wondering if your
reports go into a black hole. Certainly reports on beta servers are
often ignored, the number of times I've reported stuff during beta,
and it's gone live only to be hastily hotfixed in the first few
days... and I'm thinking "I told you about that TWO MONTHS ago..."

Yep. That's why I've stopped reporting bugs, it's a waste of my time and
there is no indication anyone at blizzard cares.

Reality is a curve. That's not the problem. The problem is that there
isn't as much as there should be. According to some of the more mystical
texts in the stacks of the library of Unseen University - (...) - at
least nine-tenths of all the original reality ever created lies outside
the multiverse, and since the multiverse by definition includes
absolutely everything that is anything, this puts a bit of a strain on
things. --Moving Pictures

A few hours after I submitted my bug report, the bug, which was
freezing my game play, went away.

Well, I'm guessing bug reports are what bring attention to the bugs
which *do* get fixed, but yeah, some just seem to get completely
ignored, which is really frustrating. I tend to wonder why they bother
with beta tests when they ignore half the feedback...

Because the game itself has become so god-damn complicated from a
coder's PoV so blizzard has to prioritize some types of bugs above other
bugs.

That's my best guess.

An example; The default bag is still a simple 16 slot bag probably
because its hardcoded and therefore cant be changed without affecting
parts of the binaries and making loads of unforseen issues within the game.

Fair point overall, but in the case where many people report a bug
during beta, it goes live, and *then* gets hastily hotfixed as they
realise that yes, it is a problem... it's frustrating! Happens too
often to seem like, it just happened to take 2 days beyond launch time
to get fixed, feels more like reports weren't taken seriously until it
went live and tons more people started complaining.

Aaactually.... they can change that now, or at least very soon ;-)
Announced at Blizzcon, they've finally managed it and it'll be given
out automatically to people with an autheticator on their account as a
little incentive for higher security. Not sure when, might be 8.0, but
it is on the way apparently, took long enough!

The binaries are, of course, changed with every build.

The backpacks haven't been able to be changed because they made some bad
decisions in how they coded back in Wow 1.x, and they didn't get
themselves out of that idiocy until (I think it was) Wow 6.x, but
decided they didn't need to change anything.

I can't remember, I'm afraid; I think they didn't, or it'd be all
around the internet and I'd have found it by googling. Hopefully big
enough to feel worthwhile, like 30+, rather than just going from 16 to
20!

It should double to 32, but knowing Blizzard it will be 20 or 24.

I just submitted a bug report to Blizzard. How do I tell if they've
received or responded to it?
If you did it through the in-game ticket system it should show up on
your screen, unless they've stopped doing that.

I wouldn't hold your breath, Blizzard has stopped carrying about bugs a
long time ago, just like they've stopped carrying about writing clear
quest objectives, or fixing anything in the game that is misleading,
confusing, or simply not explained at all in the game. Their solution is
wowhead, a 3rd party that they shunt all such issue to with zero interest
in fixing the game.
