Officially it's beta, feels more like an alpha based on the number of
crashes and disconnects so far ;-) Can't believe my luck at getting
in, I've never been randomly selected for beta before so that made my
day when I got it yesterday! No EU realms, nor character copy for EU
accounts, so we're using premades on the same US realm as everyone
else, and boy does it not like the load, crash, crash, world server
down, disconnect.... hehehe. I'm writing this while waiting for it to
decide to get past 90% of the loading bar ;-)

Due to the DCs I'm only about 5 quests into the Tanaan Jungle intro
and can't say much about it, except you sure run into a lot of
familiar names very early, it's really a cool intro for anyone who
likes the lore stuff (even if you don't, you'll know at least *some*
of the names...). Been playing with character models a bit though and
oh, the relief, my undead male feels exactly right, phew! Some of the
other models are not so good in their feel, I'd be extremely upset
right now if my main was a female gnome, tbh :-/ Hopefully those will
be worked on a bit more, but I'm very relieved indeed that my main
will feel like my character, not a stranger!

I got an invite as well... except that it's tied to the specific wow
account I do NOT normally play, but only exists because I wanted a
certain RAF mount.

Still downloading (another 20.57GB to go) but hoping that since it's
tied to my bnet account, I'll be able to import from another login under
it. Otherwise, I'll be stuck with premades.

Should be fine, I didn't notice mine tied to any particular account,
just my battle.net one :-) I believe character copy is a little
glitchy for US folk, as they're trying a new system out, but at least
it exists there, we're still waiting - luckily I was intending to use
a premade anyway, as I didn't lvl the character I wanted to use to 90
in time ;-)

Depencs who you believe. The launcher says alpha, the buil number says
beta. Since they say they are not feature-complete and are still working
on mechanisms, I'd say alpha.

Also, it's about as stable as a hippopotamus on point.

People are claiming that the oler accounts got in first. As far as I can

year old accounts are not. Coincidence, perhaps.

had.

Hmm, interesting, devs said mobs hadn't been squished yet, while
players have, so going anyplace other than Draenor could be lethal.
Maybe they did Timeless isle then, if it feels about the same! Intro

The elite spinning turtles on Timeless Isle had less than 60K health.

Yeah, health is squished but the dmg they deal isn't supposed to be
yet. Still work in progress according to the last forum post on the
subject, I'll check it out though, will be interesting to see if it's
done now :-)

My mage can (mostly) kill them. They seem to be a little bit stronger
than they were, but that may be I don't know how to play my mage
anymore.

(not that I ever really did).

In panda the vendor was a dozen (guess) quests in, but easy to get to
once you knew/remembered where it was. Although you did get a +100%
weapon before going in.

Appropriate to a prior comment the alliance npc on the airship and a
couple of others early on did have a forcefield preventing approach and
mammoths parking on them .

Remember to reset the talent bonsai, note to self rather than anybody
in particular.

No vendor at all here, unless I've missed one someplace. Which would
be easy to do, I feel fairly disorientated in a new place with soooo
many players around me, and the disconnects and boot back to
hearthstone location every few minutes aren't exactly helping. Neither
is the phase out... phase back in every other minute ever since I
reached SMV lol (world's most annoying bug, it affects the entire zone
and there are many many complaints on General about it ;-)). I have
never progressed so slowly in a zone ever (although I am now lvl 91,
so exp isn't all that slow!), just been on for 3 hours, not sure how
much I did but I've only just reached the next village after the
garrison site, anyway... and I know I missed exploring a few bits in
the area, just not yet sure if I'll get pointed there later on.

Quests go all over the place here, it's kinda like Outland again for
that, in that you have to check your map a bit to see what's nearby -
but at present it's a really fun exploring, tons of stuff to discover
around the place. Day 1 of release is going to be a total utter
nightmare though, not too many huge bottleneck quests (once you plant
the silly flag to start your garrison off), but everything is camped,
meaning crazy fast respawns. I wanted to explore a cave but couldn't
actually get in the entrance since I was getting constant respawns on
me, never had fewer than 2 mobs at a time hitting me, no matter how
fast I killed them :-P

It's rather tempting to level an alliance alt first instead of my main
when it goes live, given the 95% Horde bias on my realm, alliance
should be rather less painful... only, I know I'll want my main first,
sigh ;-)

I did get handed a 515 crossbow very early on.

The hearthing you back is annoying because it burns your hearthstone, so
your stone is basically always on a 30m cooldown.

I haven't spotted it yet if so :-) Maybe if I level it further, but
then, it's not a starter gear vendor in that case, as I've done a
whole bunch of garrison quests and been sent off to other areas now.
There's a "special vendor" or something like that in my garrison who
doesn't do anything atm, perhaps that might become it.

I've had a few decent quest rewards, 500-510ish range, still wearing
several items that I started out with though. Did get a blue quest
reward that randomly levelled up to epic though :-O I'd heard it was
possible, but forgot until it happened, that was fairly awesome!

Yeah, it's a real struggle to play. Also it was SO crowded and laggy
last night when I first did that quest, that it took me ages to
realise that you have to find each flag and click it once, not wait
for respawns, which is what I was doing - what with the phasing in and
out, it was kinda hard to tell that actually they really weren't
respawning and I was supposed to look for new ones. I'd assumed I
couldn't see them because other people were using them. A lot of
quests seem to use different mechanics to normal, and I keep getting
confused - it's great that things work differently, but I'm easily
confused with new stuff, and the phasing is doing my head in, so I'm
just plain lost half the time.

Yep. At least once I got my garrison set up I could bind there, that
beats porting back from Stormwind every few minutes. I even had a
couple of dcs recently where I actually came back where I'd been
(granted, on low health having been beaten up by mobs while I was
logging back in), that was a nice change! Can't wait for some fixes to
the phasing/dcs, the "stress" test has certainly succeeded I reckon
;-)

A tip so you guys don't make the same mistake as I did: if after
completing the Dark Portal intro stuff and reaching Shadowmoon
Valley/Frostfire Ridge, you get booted to SW or Org (happens a lot
with the server crashes), DO NOT TAKE THE PORT FROM KHADGAR!

He sends you back to the Dark Portal, and there's no way out, except
your hearthstone, which may well have been put on cd when you were
removed to SW/Org.... that was a fun 30 mins wait :-P The correct way
to return to SMV/Frostfire, is to go to your Cataclysm portals area;
there's a mini Dark Portal there which takes you to the right place.
Sigh!
