Discussion:
Children's week - oracles and frenzyheart kids?

Well, Children's Week is here and I "only" need [School of hard knocks] for
the meta achievment. I thought while I'm waiting for the /LFG-BG queues to
pass I might as well do the quests in order for the third human quest reward
pet and for the frenzyheart pet (I did oracles last year). No problem
getting a kid from SW, but it seems that you can no longer get one outside
the bank in Dalaran for the Oracle/Frenzyheart quests? Have they moved? Or
gone alltogether?

Cheers

Nope, apparently, the 2 pets are mutually exclusive. If you've already got
one, you can't get the other, so there will be no quest there for you.

"Good morning (and evening), everyone.

I'm terribly sorry about the delay in getting back to you all regarding
this issue; however, this is an issue we are presently looking into. At
this time, players who completed the Dalaran Children's Week quests will
be unable to re-accept the quests. We hope to resolve this issue as soon
as possible, but we do not have an ETA to provide at this time.

We will surely let you know as soon are more information becomes
available.

Thank you all for your patience! "

Seems to be yet another event bug:

My understanding is that they are only exclusive for the same year,
that if you got one last year, you can get the other one this year, at
least that's what I read on Wowhead. Because of this it would take 3
years to get all the pets for this achievement.

Now we're talking two different quest groups.

There are quests given out in SW for alliance (I think it is Org for horde,
but not sure) for human (or orc) orphans. Finishing this quest line lets you
choose from 3 pets or a bag of gold. You can do the quest line once a year.
This will be my third year of doing it, meaning I will get the third pet and
have them all. In the future I can either do the quest for the gold, or just
not bother (not enough gold for the time needed). Accepting this quest
worked just fine this year.

Then, there is (used to be?) a quest line starting in Shatt, though I cannot
accept it this year. I don't think there was an additional pet reward,
though.

And last, there was a new quest line added to Dalaran, where you had to
choose either an Oracle or Frenzyheart orphan. Upon completion you got
either an oracle or frenzyheart vanity pet. You could only accept the quest
line once when it was introduced. I was assuming it was like the human one,
and I'd get the choice to do it again this year to aim for the other pet.

However, this seesm impossible at the moment. This could either be by
design, or as a bug. ASFK's post seems to suggest it is a bug.

Summarising:
- human orphan quests: do 1 a year, in three years will get you 3 pets
- dalaran orphan quests: do 1 a year, in two years will get you 2 more pets,
unless bugged, as it seems to be right now

Cheers

This is incorrect.

1. There are the low-level orphan quests, handed out in SW and Org.
They give pets or gold for completion.

2. There are the high-level orphan quests, handed out in Shattrath.
They are for both factions, and give pets and gold for completion. I
just finished those for the 3rd year running, got my third pet, and
the 'Veteran Nanny' achievement.

3. There was a (one-time?) set of orphan quest chains in Dalaran.
These are now over, and I don't know that they will occur again.

These are according, to a blue post, supposed to be a recurring event as
well. They are not currently working properly, however.

Ah, I am missing the third of these pets, so I assumed it was those that
gave the 3-pet achievment. My mistake.

Ah thanks. I've already got that achievment, so it's probably the reason I
can't accept any more orphan quests in shatt.

I assumed it was a one-time-per-year quest chain (like the low level and
shatt chains were). Not being able to get it again this year I asked if it
was a one-time-only-for-all-time chain. Some said yes. ASKF posted a link to
blue posts saying it wasn't but it was bugged. So who knows...

from Dal, the one that we did not do a few months ago.

Blizzard updated the status of that bug on the forums. They said(and no,
this isn't my interpretation, this is actually how the message was
conveyed):
"We are aware of the issue currently affecting the Children's Week quests in
Dalaran. We have no fix planned at this time."

A later blue post, apparently realizing how douchey the above sounded, later
clarified that they won't have it fixed before the end of Children's Week
this year, but it should be taken care of by next year.

I don't have a problem watiing another year for that one.

There still is a quest line starting in Shatt. It rewards 1 of 3 pets. There
is an achievement for getting all 3 Children's Week pets from Shatt(Veteran
Nanny), but oddly enough, but not for getting all 3 Org/SW ones. You sure
you're talking to the right person? Look for Orphan Matron Mercy in Lower

If you already have the achievement, you've finished the quest line and
there's nothing more to do. The Shatt quest doesn't have the "bag of gold"
option that the SW/Org one does.

important as I still need to do some heavy BG-ing to get [School of hard

Ugly I'll grant you, but if it's pink, your monitor needs adjusting.
But either way, I don't care. The point is that it's *fast*.

Never said "baby pink", just "pink" - it's a nice bright hot pink on

yeah fast is good, which is why I use that mount, hideous as it looks

The VIOLET Drake is neither pink nor ugly.
Maybe not pink, but I'll say it's certainly ugly. Got a couple friends who
HAVE the thing and rarely ride it(even WITH the 310 speed) because they find
it hideous as well.

The Ironbound one isn't all that bad, but most of the others are quite
ugly. :)

And on a related note, having finished all the quests, if I hand in the
quest at SW, will I loose my kid-whistle? Or can I keep it? This is
important as I still need to do some heavy BG-ing to get [School of hard
knocks].
And to follow up on Orion's post, did I mention that this achievment SUCKS?
The things one does to get a 310% drake....
You are supposed to be able to get another whistle after finishing the
questline, but I forgot to check after turning in the Shatt orphan, and
in the light of the other bug I've not dared turning in my Org orphan.

I must say though, that I'm not sure if I get the BG part done, but
since I missed out on the last event, I won't have the mount for another
year anyway. To willingly go to a BG, I usually need to be drunk, and
that is real drunk, not just a bit tipsy...

I can now confirm that we can get another whistle after turning in the

Yes, I re-got the SW one. Be sure to ditch it and get another the last
day of the event; it will last longer.

Especially sucks for us warlocks. Wearing cloth and having no speed boosts
to aid in flag capping is rather annoying.

AH HA!!!

Someone agrees!!

Yes indeed it does suck it does it does we hates it we does.

Anyway two stories.

Somehow my main hunter, #1 I work on for the meta finished this one
late yesterday afternoon.

To give you an idea of the effort involved

When I started I had ~1400 honor. I used most of what I had to buy the
Ragemaster's Trinket or Battlemaster's Rage, whatever it is called
with the 256 attack power.

At the end by the time I got the School of Hard Knocks Achievement my
honer was up my honor was at ~31500.

Not like I was trying to work on honor or anything. Might as well go
buy a mount with it.

Second story.

I actually put in a ticket and complained. I knew there was nothing
that could be done but I jsut wanted to complain and vent.

I mentioned that if I ever was asked to write a review on the game
there woudl be a lot of great things to write in it about how awesome
the game was. But I also added that no review would be complete
without mentioning how idiotic and stupid the School of Hard Knocks
achievement is.

The reply was that I could go to some forum and put down a post with
some suggestive ideas.

And my guildmates and friends who have ocmplaints should do so also.
I'm not one to make a living out of complaining. But if I ever get any
good idea about a replacement achievement for that one I for sure will
post it in that forum.

I think a more suitable achievement would be to just get so many
honorable kills in each of those battlegrounds.

Hell even getting 30 per BG would suffice in my book.

I would even have done it for 50 Scooby Snacks...

Er, I mean 50 honorable kills in each one.

The ONLY part of school of hard knocks that's really ridiculous is the
strand one, since it involves running flags when a) you're a class that
shouldn't, and b) you probably shouldn't be running flags anyway unless
it's a 2/2 stalemate.

The AV one is easy (if you can get in an AV) - I got it on the first try
simply by being first up the stairs at one of the frostwolf towers. The AB
one is almost the same thing, except there's more turnover than AV so it's
even easier. The WSG one ... I was expecting to have to run warsong a lot
(not really a hardship, I love a good game of WSG more than any other
battleground) but on my first try with the kid, there was one of the
opposing faction in each flagroom who was grabbing the flag and immediately
dropping it so that both teams could get their achievement. I am hoping to
run into a similar situation in Strand tonight. *

P.S. One thing is annoying though - 13 high-speed exclamation marks running
all over the place. *

assualtable.

It seemed like it only worked if the flag was owned by the other

And I agree that EotS would be a pain for someone not built for falg
running. My wife texted me earlier to let me know her rogue only needs
AV now. At least she got EotS out of the way. and she knows how to do
AV as she has done it often in the past.

I wonder what it will be like when run my priest (holy) thru the BGs.

My main already has the drake. I am trying to do the meta achievement on
my rogue who is primarily a gatherer for my professions.

Stealth should help - except if I want to remain hidden I need to keep
my orphan tucked away until just before doing the achievement.

I got AB done in my first try - no big surprise there.

AV I got ported in to a BG in progress and the towers were all capped
before I could get to them. I expect to get it done sooner or later
this week without any major issues. The challenge with AV is the time it
takes for it to pop.

I ran 1 WG and our side lost 0-3 fairly quickly. We never even killed
their flag carrier. So not even a chance to return it. I think I will
wait in the flag room next time and see if the other side is gracious. I
imagine that will happen less often as the week goes on.

I tried EotS too and that was interesting/funny. Two thirds of both
sides spent the game in the middle fighting over the flag. Way more than
usual. I assume due to the achievement. I gave up trying to get the
flag. It was easy to cap opposing towers with them focusing on the flag.

I got my achievement last night in what was probably the most fun I've ever
had in EotS - Both factions ran to the flag spawn, and we played king of
the hill over which side got to run the flag. It turned out to be dead easy
to run the flag, because once you got past the rally point line, nobody
could chase you because they got stomped into the dirt. We ended up winning
the match too, 1600 to 257, with 12-0 flag captures. The horde were so
focused on grabbing the flag at all costs, that they didn't keep track of
the rest of the game. *

You mean, having your permanent oracle/wolvar pet out in a BG will not count
for [School of Hard Rocks]? I didn't think it would. But still, thanks for
the warning :)

Blizzard says it is bugged. If you got the quest last year it is not
appearing this year, even though it should.
