Discussion:
Other good places to mine for low-level Alliance?

I've got a couple of 23rd level characters, and some of lower level,
starting in Elwyn Forest and in Dun Morogh.

So far, the only good place I've found to mine is Elwyn Forest, where
there's a ridge structure that runs throughout most of the region,
containing lots of copper nodes. If I walk that route, back and forth, I
get 50-70 copper ore in 30-40 minutes.

I have not been able to find a similar structure in Dun Morogh.

Also, I sometimes go to the Gold Coast Quarry, because I might find 1-2
tin nodes in there, or once in a very rare while even a silver node.
That's it. Everything else is random find. For instance, earlier
tomorrow one of my non-miner characters spotted a silver node, so a few
minutes later I logged in with a miner and scored a whooping 2 silver
ore. Yay!!!

I know I can download maps which show the locations of *potential*
nodes. In May, I was playing Horde and I tried using such a map to find
some Tt will not *have* nodes. Therefore I'm asking about good "chains"
of node spots, "routes" and "paths" you can follow where you have a good
chance of finding significant quantities of tin, silver or even iron.

My highest level miners can cope with anything in Elwyn Forest and Dun
Moroth, and with everything in Westfal and Loch Modan, excepting the
Defias tower in Westfal (some nasty 23rd level Defias critters!), the
Deadmines (can't solo that one!), and the Ogre camp in Loch Modan
(ouch!). Large parts of Redridge are also accessible with caution.

I think my characters are ready for Duskwood and the Wetlands as well
(exhibiting extreme caution, of course1), but I have not explored those
places yet.

Suggestions?

(For Horde players, I have one tiny tip: I did find a few nice tin veins
in the centaur oases in the Barrens. But I deleted my Horde characters i
early July, so I can't take advantage of that myself)

duskwood has copper, tin and iron but the iron is placed in positions to
cause problems.
At level 23 i think duskwood would cause lots of problems, id wait till 25+.
Wetlands i dont remember much ore at all.
I skilled up in the loch mainly, lots of tin, easy to work out a sweep
pattern.
After loch, duskwood, then later (as you level) arathi is ok for level 30+,

Darkshore has a fair amount of copper. I don't recall seeing lots of tin.
That shows up more in Ashenvale.

possibly, i didnt do ashenvale though, discovered it at level 40 and by then
i was hooked on badlands
(great for mining at 38-40 ish).

mining is a pain on our server, people camp farm the nodes generally.

You didn't mention whether you were on a PvP server. If you're Not -
I'd say the best place for your level would be Barrens. Circle the
mountains in the north. They're littered with copper veins with tin
mixed in. It's Razormane territory, but at your level they'll rarely
notice you if you skirt in from the mountain steps. And hit each oasis.
Outside of prime time their should be at least one tin vein in each of
them. If you level up your fishing (you only need like a 50 I think if
you have a friend who can make you some fish attractors), you can do
some wonderful deviate fishing there as well - catching at least a 20
stack or two while you're in the neighborhood. Also search the mountain
range down each side of the Barrens heading south. Caution - as the
mobs get higher level as you go south towards Thousand Needles. So keep
an eye on mob levels carefully as you proceed. I pretty much stayed in
that zone till I was ready for Alterac where the mithril is plentiful
(when it is not being farmed to death) and there's a variety of good
selling herbs like steelbloom and khadgar's growing alongside the veins
around the edge of the land.

I'm on a normal RP server. But I still like to pretend that it is
dangerous to go into Horde territory.

I did scout out the Barrens, at least the northern part, in May when I
was playing Horde characters, and I did not find much copper ore. I
found that the Orc/Troll starting area had much more copper, if you went
along the coast and headed west a bit after the human fortress/ruins.
There was much less copper than in Elwyn Forest, though

Yes, but 1 tin vein is hardly a bonanza. I might we well camp the Gold
Coast Quarry in Westfal.

Tin is every miner's icky spot. It's in limited supply and tedious to
get past it and up to the mithril and iron range. One trick for getting
through it swiftly though - head north of Teladrisil (sp?) and into the
Wetlands. Just after you exit the tunnel, there'll be a clearing with
slimes to the left in a recess in the mountains. If you head through
there, you'll find a spider cave. As I've warned people, the respawns
are fairly intensive, but there is an ore there called incindicite (if
I remember correctly). Fairly worthless outside of one quest, but it
levels you just like tin. I got through the tin phase in a couple hours
of farming through there with some higher levels guildies cutting down
things in my way and never looked at tin again - as it is pretty much
worthless on my server on AH for some reason. hth...
