Better armer that isn't.

I just, finally, completed Atul'Aman, and was offered a choice between
two pieces of armor, both of which would advance the armor lvl for
that slot from 298 to 300, except that the both change three
(different, I think) attributes, and all six were red. Could one of
you power gamers explain to me how, exactly, this would be an
improvement.

P.S. I selected the one with the higher vender value.

The only thing that matters is ilvl. Especially at lower than top raid
gear levels.

Nothing currently under ilvl 385 is worth even taking a second look at,
simply get the highest ilvl in a slot you can until you get 385 in all
levels. Then you will start getting drops in the 400-415 level. All ear
under ilvl 385 is simply vendor trash that you might wear for awhile
before you vendor it.

Again, take the highest ilvl.

If you are going to do mythic raids or mythic progressions on 5 man,
THEN, and really only then, you start looking at which 430s are very
slightly better than the other ones.

When you unlock Nazjatar (sp?) you can buy 9 slots of 385 gear
trivially. My main has bought 6 sets of 385 for each of my alts.

You will have to get rings and trinkets and weapons via drops, but head
shoulders, chest., back, wrists, hands, waist, legs, and feet you just
buy BOA tokens and send them off to your alts (after you buy yourself
any of those slots you have been unlucky on the RNG.

But the base stats on the gear you said was inferior was probably
higher, making up for the secondary traits. Probably. But either way, it
is vendor trash. Maybe not today, but soon.

Which version of WoW are you talking about? If live, then, as Lewis
says, 99% of the time item levelis what matters (although there are
plenty of instances where I prefer the stats on a slightly lower item,
in those cases I keep the high ilvl piece in my bags to increase my
total but continue equipping the old item).

But if Classic, then level and armour total has zero to do with
anything - stats are key, and some lower level items are much better
than higher level items - it's less predictable, but more interesting
when you get that one awesome item that'll last you for 20 lvls!

I was referring to items my 120 goblin rogue got in Vul'dun, but I
don't care about raids or dungeons because I only do them if I
absolutely have to, and even then I do them at the normal setting.

Aha, and I'm similar tbh, nowadays you get decent gear from WQs so no
need to care about dungeons unless I want to do them (some questchains
mean I have to, but I do the bare minimum) - oddly I *enjoy* them in
Classic but it's a very different playstyle (at least with guildies,
not all pugs do it), with strategic pulling and use of CC, interrupts
etc, rather that just aoe spamming, which isn't my idea of fun.

In that case, if stats seem worse on your new item but it's higher
ilvl, stick it in your bag to boost you ilvl, as higher ilvl makes
your WQ and emissary rewards higher ilvl, but you don't have to equip
it if you don't like its stats :-)
