It's more than 10 years since I first played WoW (I made it to lvl 40
on a pvp realm, couldn't stand the ganking, and quit), but 10 years
ago yesterday I rolled my first real main which made it all the way to
lvl 60: a human rogue called Balgair. Almost forgot his birthday, I
realised at 11.30pm and quickly logged him and ran off to Dalaran to
grab a big cake! ;-) Visited STV to take some screenies, it was one of
my favourite zones in vanilla and there's still a few bits that are
unchanged, brought back memories, once I'd turned old models on.

Pretty sad though as I knew that after this I was going to kill him:
faction change is pending now, soon he'll be undead :-/ It'll be truer
to "my" character than his new model is, but still, feels a bit bad; I
have a backstory for him and all, so he effectively is "dying" to
become undead, so yeah, hurts a bit. Though I'll be happy to be
actually playing him again rather than looking at the login screen and
switching away to a character I can stand the sight of lol ;-)

And now lvl 100, not bad when I've not even been on WoW much this last
week or so. Made it to 99 in time to farm myself a Brewfest trinket;
yeah, they're not up to much (670, now?), but it's an ilvl boost until
I get something better anyway! Felt a bit bad doing awful dps though
lol, even my heal spec priest does better... had a few BoAs and a
pair of Brewfest tankards waiting for the lvl 100 ding though so I
should be rather less useless now I've got there.

I'd forgotten how much I love playing a rogue, it's great fun playing
the stealthy assassin character, stealthing through a camp full of
mobs, pickpocketing everything, sapping and grabbing treasures from
under their noses, only killing carefully selected targets, totally
different playstyle to other classes :-)

Although I miss old pickpocketing, the fencing goods to Griftah thing
is a cool idea, but... tbh I liked greys and flavour items, with rare
chance at a gem, or if really lucky, a ring or neck. Junkboxes, with
very very rare epic daggers, it was all fun stuff and very fitting for
a rogue. Now, everything I get translates to more coins, and
everything's too common... I used to get excited at green text, now
purple text is "meh". For me that improvement actually made it less
fun :-/
