Abusing the VP buff exploit after reset

Surprisingly many peeps dont know this old trick... :)

I placed my warlock on timeless isle last night before the server
shutdown. This morning I still had the VP buff on my lock so I started
out with doing the daily and weekly quest on timeless. Later on I did
most dailies on the main island. But I *never* did any of the dailies
where I could risk losing the VP buff due to any kind of zone change.
Thats quests like [Rampage against the machine] (klaxxi) and [Along the
serpent's spine] (golden lotus) etc. I never tabbed to desktop while I
was flying etc. Actually you will lose your vp buff if youre taxiing
and tabs to desktop as the game reloads the zone youre in when you tab
back to the game! 660 nice VPs with buff.

So... I started on timeless isle -> arboretum (jade forest) -> garrison
(krasarang) -> halfhill -> picked up the daily temple quest at shrine
(today it was chi-ji in krasarang) -> chi-ji in krasarang -> klaxxi ->
shadopan in steppes -> golden lotus in vale. Here I went back to
krasarang for handing in a daily fishing quest I got while fishing at
the arboretum. Did the other 3 fishing dailies at the wharf I had
forgot all about.
Next week I will go to the shrine right after I've done the dailies at
the arboretum so I can get the daily temple quest location.

Picking up the 50 epoch stones on timeless took me almost 1 hour despite
I pulled 2-4 elites at a time (void walkers ftw!). The other dailies
including flying on the main island took me 45-50 mins. Its sounds
nearly impossible, but actually its doable if you plan ahead a little bit.

I lost the buff as planned when I queued for a hc due to the zone change
when you enter a dungeon. 85 vps. A quick hc scen: 150 vps. 895 vps.
A quick raid in lfr (I checked the queue time on all raids and picked
the one with shortest queue time - MSV first wing - I entered almost
instantly). 3 bosses down in 25 mins. 985 vps. A normal scenario 50
vps. 1035 vps == vp capped.

3 hours of intensive playtime including 4 cups of coffee and 5 cigs.
Funfun. Now I can relax on my other chars. :)

Some other nice-to-know info:

If you log your first char before 12am after weekly reset you will have
the vp buff. If you log the first time _After_ 12am you will not have
it. It happens that you will not have any vp buff despite you log
before 12am. I dont have a clue why.
Also. If you HS to a major city like the shrine this is considered as a
zone change and you will lose your vp buff. So dont HS, use a mage's
portal or other teleport situations.

Let me get this straight; Monday night, before reset, you log out. On logging
back in, after the maintenance shutdown, you still have the buff until
server(?) noon?

I remember getting this once; I was surprised. Sadly, 'before 12 (server?) on
Tuesdays I don't usually have any playtime.

So you do the two quests on TI, then taxi to the mainland Pandaria and
do dailies?

It sounds like youre playing on a US realm, no? Im in europe where the
realms resets between tues and wed.

And answer to your question: yes

VP capped. I logged my warlock 7.15am. The daily and weekly on
timeless isle took me silly 30 mins as it was early in the morning ==
zero competition on elites. But the dailies on the panda mainland was
done in 1h20m despite I optimized my route a bit. I may have misread
the clock last week as I said I only spent 45 mins on those incl. flying.
Anyhoo. 660 VPs after 2 hours just by doing dailies and a single
weekly. I went to Thunder Isle (its pretty empty now) and farmed rares.
Despite I had lost the vp buff due to the zone change I killed all 11
rares there and got 165 VPs. They drop 15 VPs each.
2 heroics (85+40 VPs) and a noob scenario (50 VPs) later and I was
capped. I didnt bother with spending time for picking up af group for a
hc scen as queued heroics are instant every wednesday morning. 4 hours
+ breaks, listening to girlfriend, making more coffee etc. :)

Time to relax the next 6 days.

I just tried this - capped VP, had the buff, logged out beside Emperor Shaohao.
Just logged in - no buff. Turned in (pre run) Path of the Mistwalker - 50 VP.

Did I do something wrong, or have they patched this exploit?

I doubt its patched (I think I noticed very small hotpatch last friday
afternoon though). When did you log in? You have to be sure your
logged in before 12am. And maybe its even earlier before the buff
disappears. Anyway. Its not 100% reliable, but in most cases it works
fine.

I play on Misha-US. This is a West Coast server, so its clock
runs 3 hours behind mine (I'm on the East Coast). I logged out
about 11 PM local time Monday night (8 PM server time). This
morning I logged at about 10 AM local, 7 AM server, and didn't
have the buff.

This morning I didnt have the vp buff. But I also placed my warlock
just above the spot where Rattleskew spawns (I have him on farm). So
maybe I also have to park my char in an inn or other sanctuary in order
to keep the vp buff after reset.
Well. Its a shot. Because one of my guildies is farming vps with his
vp buff while I'm typing this. He placed his main in the tent on
timeless isle last night which I also normally do. :)

My work schedule doesn't really let me test this most of the time. So,
we think the schedule is.

1. Obtain VP buff.
2. Evening before reset, logout in an inn.
3. Log back in after reset, but before realm time noon.
4. Don't do anything that generates a loading screen - no portals, deaths,
scenarios, dungeons, raids, or hearths.
5. Profit

I almost forgot the weekly update here.

Yesterday morning I had the vp buff again. Woohoo!

I normally always farm VPs until cap on my lock due to my void tank and
nice aoe spells. But since I had 2300 VPs on him (no new gear recently)
I decided to use my mage for it. He was low on VPs anyway.

Tuesday night I realized my mage was capped even before I handed in the
weekly timeless quest (300 VPs). So I decided NOT to hand in the weekly
quest and then do lots of dailies without handing them in until my quest
log was filled up. That would give me a nice boost wednesday morning.
So 30 minutes of flying around and handing in dailies wednesday morning
gave me easy 510 VPs. That was fast. :)
But there was a neat surprise too. Tuesday night I did the dailies at
the shado-pan garrison and lion's landing. When I returned wednesday
morning I got new dailies with different quests at those factions
despite I hadnt handed in the dailies from the night before. So
normally I would make 37-38 VPs at Lion's landing. But yesterday I made
75 VPs.

Wednesday morning's result; ~730 VPs with buff in 45 mins.

3 heroics, a few rares on Thunder and one of the three daily fishing
quests for Nat Pagle later and I was capped again. 2h50m. I guess I
could have hit the vp cap in around 2 hours this time. But i decided
not to bother with a hc scen this morning as I had bread in the owen and
also I had to do some laundry. :)

My problem is the Justice points - I easily cap VPs each week, and use them,
but I've run out of stuff to spend JPs on.

There's no useful gear I can buy with it.

Converting it to HP doesn't help. I have a two full PvP JP sets, even
though I don't PvP (well, hardly ever).

I have *all* the Heirloom gear; I bought it a long time ago (WotLK? Cata?),
and it hasn't been upgraded.

The other 'legacy' items I can buy are now low level mats, not worth bothering
with.

At the moment, I'm capped on JP, capped on HP, and just destroying any new
JP I get.

Have you bought the upgrades to the old heirlooms? Pretty sure you can
convert them to higher lvl ones with justice points now, unless I've
got totally muddled.

Maybe worth a look at the models of some of the old JP gear for
potential transmog pieces, some of the Sunwell era gear is really nice
(my warlock bought a staff for transmog, looks fantastic with lock
tier 1), and the Wrath cloaks are pretty good as well, bought a few of
those on various alts.

I'll have to research where the 'higher lvl ones' are sold - the only vendor
I'm aware of is in SW, near the VP vendor there.

Followup question: Does this make them soulbound, rather than account-bound?

http://www.wowhead.com/item=93846#sold-by should help - it appears the
upgrades take the old lvl 80 heirlooms to 85, and cost 3500 JP (at
least, this one does, others may be cheaper), plus your old heirloom.
Not cheap, and I considered it a waste of justice points, but for
someone like you who has more than you know what to do with, you may
as well! :-)

They still appear account-bound; also ofc it's truly accountbound now
with crossrealm mail, and the upcoming heirloom interface with WoD, so
pretty handy if you have a few alts that aren't past 85. Also seems
honor heirlooms can be done the same way, so when you run out of
justice ones to upgrade, you can convert to honor and upgrade those as
well; end up with a nice collection ;-)

I wasn't working today, so I decided to experiment with the glitch. I logged
out last night in the inn on Timeless Isle. This morning, I went through the
daily and the weekly there (375 VP), then moved to the Pandarian mainland and
did as many dailies as possible. I wound up doing 40, which seemed to cover
pretty much every one available which granted VP, winding up with 675 VP
gained with the buff. At that point I lost the buff porting to Isle of Thunder (saved till last).

Two points I noticed:
1. Death did not remove the buff.
2. The loading screen for the daily where you roll along the wall didn't either.

Good! I just did Dark Skies (one of the flying quests in dread wastes)
and I still have the buff.
Btw. I have started doing the dailies the night before. So last night
I did shado-pan garrison and operation: shieldwall + many others. I
handed in the completed quests this morning and got new dailies from
those two factions. So completing those faction quests two times today
== double up on VPs.
It seems its not possible to complete the daily temple quests two times.

758 VPs from vp buff just on dailies. New record. :)

So let me get this straight - you can double up dailies, but only those where
you get different ones different days. Is that correct? Thinking about it,
I think *all* the dailies are like that.

== double up on VPs.
It seems its not possible to complete the daily temple quests two times.

Yes.
I guess I'll have to try to load up my quest log with completed dailies the night before reset - doing it early runs the risk that you'd get the same set
after reset, and couldn't turn it in that week (can you get the same set of
(for example) Tiller dailies two days in a row?).

Lets see - 25 slots in quest log - 187.5 VP. 375 from Timeless weekly and
daily. 41 normal dailies, 307.5 VP. That's a total of 870 VP with the buff,
which I think is about the maximum possible.

In practice, my quest log is not empty, so I can't quite hit that.

I got the same shadopan dailies tuesday night and wednesday morning.
When I handed in the completed dailies from the night before a new blue
exclamation mark popped on the main questgiver and I got the same
dailies again. I think this also can happen with operation: shieldwall.
At least I'm able to hand in shieldwall dailies 2 times wednesday morning.

But if I have 4 completed dailies with august celestials from the night
before and I pick up the new daily quest at the shrine the old dailies
from the night before gets overwritten/deleted. So august celestials
cant be done two times like those above.

Its practially the same issue with klaxxi, tiller and order of the cloud
serpent. Once you hand in their faction dailies from the night before
you wont get new dailies.
Im unsure about the dailies at the anglers.

Golden lotus is a little odd. I got the daily where I had to kill Milau
tuesday night. When I handed in that daily wednesday morning I got a
new daily quest inside the ruins (the daily where you have to deactivate
a wall and pick up an artifact from the final room). I think its
because the daily ruin quest is the only daily quest which is random at
this faction.

Same here. But if I have quests in the quest log I can reacquire I just
abandon those and pick them up later.

OK, we should try to characterize this.
Pandaria Daily quest groups:

Klaxxi
Golden Lotus
Tillers
Anglers
Shieldwall
Shadopan
Cloud Serpent
Lorewalkers (just 1)

You say you've doubled with Shieldwall and Shadopan. We should try others.

Shadopan is an odd case - you normally hand in your quests to your companion,
and after the first 4 are handed in, get one extra in the same area.

Yesterday I did 4 SP dailies, and dismissed my companion. Today, I handed in
those 4, and got the 5th. Did that, handed it in, and the questgiver had 4 more
for me :-). I did those and got the followup, so was able to hand in 10 dailies
today, confirming your observation.

We need to test this on the other groups.

I've been playing with this. Shieldwall and Shadopan seem to work. In other
cases, I think it's related either to (1) turning in quests to someone other
than the quest giver, or (2) There being a sequence, where you don't get the
whole group at once.

At any rate, the next time I have to opportunity to do this, I intend to load
up SP and SW quests the night before, and as many others as possible.

TBH, even with the buff, maxing VP in one day is a lot of work, maybe more
than it's worth once you get past the two quests on Timeless Isle.

That is true. But the benefit is the relaxing playstyle on alts once
youre vp capped on one toon. They keyword is effenciency. And its
possible to vp cap with intensive playtime in 3-4 hours.

I don't really do alts.

Today was annoying. Yesterday I loaded up 20 completed dailies, and was ready to
use the buff for all it was worth. I log on, start turning in quests, and within
2 minutes, get '[Server] Server restarting'.

I decided to ride it out in an inn, to see if I kept the buff. No dice.

Regular MoP dailies are still not worth it to me. They're far faster and less
irritating now that my Holy Pally's off-spec gets 80-90k dps than 25k, but
I still don't need them; Timeless isle daily + weekly, and 1 Heroic Dungeon and
1 Scenario put me over the top easily in a few days.

I found that I got 'do overs' on Shieldwall, ShadoPan, and 1 Fishing quest.

Hehe.. :)

Its around 4am here in Copenhagen, Denmark, while I write this and the
game is running in the background. I was sure the dailies reset at 5am
and it was my plan to go to bed in a few mins. Until I realized last
week's VP buff was gone and dailies reset at 3am. Doh!
Well. Mage (main): 2290 VPs, lock (second main): 2877 VPs, kitty druid
(alt): 2174 and dizzy monk (alt): 1550 VPs. Maybe I should take a break
from this tedious VP hunting... :)
Actually Im looking forward for a week with WoW without worrying about
VPs. My lvl 82 twinked shammy with full heirloom set is seriously
blazing ahead oneshotting everything on her road when I recently read
that MoP enchants now can be used on heirlooms(!), my lvl 65 pally needs
to be dusted of and maybe I should start leveling that rogue!

No buff. There was not SW update this week, unlike last week (when I also did

I now have two toons at 90, and both are maxxed out on VP.

What's the correct mechanism to get the buff now? Previously, I made sure that
my main (who got the buff) was the last to logout before reset, and did so
in an inn. It hasn't helped the last few weeks, and I wonder what I'm doing
wrong.

That's what I did, and this morning I had the buff. I was able to get 540
VP before a rolling reset ended my run.

I think if there's a server restart over the reset period, I lose the
buff. If the server hasn't had a restart, as was the case today, I keep
it.

Well. I forgot to place my shammy (funfun ele/resto alt mainly for flex
runs) on Timeless last night. The char was placed in SW. But that's
okay. I havent had much luck with epic drops on my two mains recently
so they're maxed out with VPs anyway. But I had the buff nonetheless.
My shammy is sitting on 2k/3k VPs in the legendary quest line so there
will be no probs with getting VP capped as I need experience with shammy
healing from heroics, LFRs and flexis.

Here's a new wrinkle on the exploit.

You keep the buff on any character that's maxxed on VP and logged out
in Timeless Isle.

I now have two 90s, Vamlock and Vamoose. The latter is my main, the
former my new 'lock.

Last week, VL got VP maxxed, and both got the buff. Last night, I
logged both of them out in the TI inn. This morning, I logged in
on VM, and had the buff.

The interesting point here is that there's a 200 VP weekly quest on TI.
This is much easier to complete if you already have the buff, and
if you keep it and the buff over reset, is an instant 300 VP start to the
next week.

I'm going to be alternating which toon does the day-after-reset
grind, and get the 200 VP quest on the other one, holding it completed
until after reset.

Both toons still max out each week, but at a lower time spent. I *do*
lose 1000 timeless coins on one each week, but that's tolerable.

I certainly didn't spot them immediately.

Since you're usually at level cap on TI, most of the
time you're not that interested in rested XP.

Another wrinkle:

As I noted, I have two max level toons, Vamoose and Vamlock

Last week, VL loaded up with dailies, including the Tillers.

After reset, VM busted his ass to VP cap with the carried
over buff. He finished capping early the next day. I then
logged in VL to turn in all the dailies in his log.

I couldn't turn in the Tillers dailies - no yellow '?'s. I
think I have to wait until the same set of dailes pops up
to do so.

So, if you're loading up a VP capped toon with dailies to
turn in the next week, skip the tillers unless you won't
otherwise use slots in the quest log.

Some of the Tillers characters have two possible locations: they will be
standing in the market if their daily quest is active that day, or they
will be waiting at home otherwise.

For example if you pick up Farmer Fung's quest to splash buckets of water
on dusty spots and then wait a day to hand it in, you may have to trek out
to Farmer Fung's house to hand it in.

But some of the quests are *always* in the market; for example the cooking
quest NPCs are always there. You weren't able to hand in the cooking daily?

Yes. Plus the daily quest (75 buffed VPs). Its a fine boost after reset.
If you have 2 well-geared guildies online you can VP cap just by farming
hc scens in less than an hour. 150 VPs for the first run and 100 VPs
for the next runs (incl. bonus ofc). I usually use my lock for this as
my void tank does an excellent aggro job with 3 high-dps'ers in the
background.

dispelled the buff during the exploit period.

Heroic scenarios do not?

Hc scens is an option. But the buff disappears once you enter a hc
scen. As I said earlier its a very fast method to get vp capped. But
it requires 2 other players.
With VP buff: daily and weekly quest on TI. 375 VPs. 625 to go. And
625 VPs is 6 hc scen runs - 150+100+100+100+100=650+375=1025 VPs.
Capped. Bingo.

But doing 6 painless hc scen runs in an hour or less requires at least 2
well-geared peeps with high dps outputs (~150-200k) in that group. A
warlock with a void tank is a huge benefit.

Having just levelled my first lock, I have to say that the Void tank
is totally OP.

Oh yes! =) You can kill the 5-7m hp mobs in and around the Ordon
Sanctuary even in low-lvl blues thanks to the void. :)
