Once we get flight in Shadowlands, will we be able to fly between
Oribos, Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Renendreth? They're
connected by flight paths now, so....

I presume we won't be able to fly in or to The Maw.

There are flight paths in WoW since they added flying that you cannot
duplicate on a mount, so not necessarily.

You will find out for sure only when 9.1 drops and you finish whatever
ridiculous grind they implement to unlock flying. Or if they announce
something.

Yep, based on how the flightpaths go, I strongly suspect we can't
manually fly along them. However they do look as though it might be
possible to fly into the portal in Oribos and get whooshed along the
zipline like the flightpath and dropped off at the end, so... maybe?
Would be cool if it worked that way, I was disappointed we couldn't
just walk into the obvious portals up there, so it'd be nice if they
got implemented for flying.

Yep, it's just wait for 9.1 PTR I reckon, unless they tell us in
advance.

Most portals in the game dismount you or require you to be dismounted to
activate them. Not all, but most.

Yep, but the ones in Oribos are very reminiscent of the Dark Portal -
big things the flightpath mounts fly through, so there's some chance
it could be made to worklike that - I know you can fly into the Dark
Portal, and I'm mostly confident you stay mounted on theother side
(been a while sicne I've been through it). Plus, it's not exactly
portals, although they look like it and I'm calling them that for
convenience - there is an actual path through space which never goes
through a loading screen, so it'll probably not work like a regular
portal anyway.

I thought they said some time back it'll be tied to renown with your
covenant, which is gained by just playing the game, going through the
campaign, and doing certain weekly quests (with catchup mechanisms for
people who are behind).

I think ti depends which dark portal you go through. Into Ouland I think
you are dismounted, but into WoD you are not dismounted, but you are put
on the ground.

Of course, this may have all changed with the 9.0 since all the
expansion are now 10-50 leveling zones.

That doesn't sound too bad, but the previous unlocks have all required
you to explore ever pixel of the current expansion, as I recall. I think
only Wrath required you to spend a lot of money as well.

I think it was in Pandamania where I used a 2-person mount to fly a
friend of mine to all the hard to reach points on the Map.

I am curious what the ridiculous grind will be.
Afaik there should be no bigger grind according to an old article on
wowhead. So no more pathfinder achievement. But there should be a few
easy prerequisites. Probably a quest-chain or so.

When that is said. The transportation system is way too clunky. And I
never visit other zones unless I really need to do my daily call.
I hope Blizzard will make teleports between the hubs in all zones like
the hub between The Maw and Oribos.

If you look in the Achievements window, you'll see a section under
Quests, called Flight School, with three sub achievements in it:
Falling with Style, Up and Away, and Flapping Frenzy. I suspect those
might have something to do with earning flight

Those are achievements from world quests. One of them is up or was up
earlier today in EU. Northern part of Bastion more precisely.

Does that preclude their being part of earning flight?

Those are current world quests, I think. Well, Up Up and Away is, at
least since a friend of mine was very angry about this quest back when
9.0 dropped as he kept falling through the flowers.

Don't know anything about it other than that, and no idea if it's been
fixed.

It has, yes - not that I do it often because it's still awkward and
annoying, but so far as I know it no longer sends you falling when
you're sure you hit the flower. Idea good, implementation... not so
much :-P

It would be nice! There are teleports available if you can be bothered
with a bit of farming when the right calling is up though:
https://www.wowhead.com/news=320310/lucy-the-ghost-cat-and-other-rewards-from-shadowlands-trainee-callings-quests#news-post-320310
- see the "Pocket Portal" rewards. Yesterday was the first time I ever
saw the right guy for this soI haven't handed it in yet, got myself 6
Bastion (can say from testing that it doesn't drop you very near any
transport links but it's at least only a short ride from a Kyrian
teleporter... rather further from any flightpath though) and 3
Maldraxxus portal items so far, which at least speeds up movement a
bit over flying from Oribos. When I unlock the Oribos portal from
Elysian Hold I'll hearth there instead, but as I don't currently have
it it's easier to keep my hearth central to everything.

Tbh it's not so much the flight times that bug me, as I've always been
in the habit of tabbing out and reading forums while I travel anyway,
but the lack of whistle. Riding to a WQ, no problem, but once I'm
done, I'm *done* and want to leave, not try and dodge 100 mobs on my
way out...
