Farming elites for the T3 barn - a little trick

This morning I found this little exploit:

<http://www.wowhead.com/item=119815#comments:id=2072488>

I tested it and I got 2 caged mighty wolves in 1 kill 4 out of 5 times.
I farmed the same three elite wolves again and again and the result
was 21 cages in ~20 minutes on my feral 614 druid. :)

I dps the wolf to around 52-55%
- run away (stun, slow whatever)
- lay down a trap
- run away from the trap/kite the wolf away from your trap
- dps it a little more so the wolf gets below 50%
- run back to my first trap when off cd and lay down a new trap on top
of it (stun, slow whatever again before you run back to your first trap)

You only have 15 secs to lay down your second trap and kite the wolf to it.

The realms will be down wednesday morning here in EU prolly due to
patching or hotfixing. But I hope they dont fix this exploit. ^^

Are the wolves rare or hard to fight or keep on the trap?
While it certainly saves time , more if hard to get, I otherwise found
no problem with trapping.
No kiting needed, tag them with something ranged, drop trap in line
with their attack line to you.
Stand and fight, dot and dps, if the don't trap when down enough turn
around and walk away in a direct line with their centre.
Traps 75%+ of the time, usually much more just not always.

Wouldn't this work if you just did the above but laid trap early,
stopped dps and dot at 60%, turn until trap expired and just placed a
new one without running around?

The miss rate seems to be random-ish, maybe some slightly out of
position. Some will not trap even if you just had a straight run of a
dozen successes with the exact same method.

Meh, I usually trapped on a skinner anyway :-)

That is just to try and delay killing with autoattack since you have
gone to all this trouble :-)

Nah. I just mention wolves as I farm them for furs. :)

Are we talking about the same kind of mobs? I talk about the lvl 100
elite mobs with +800k hp in NW Nagrand.

When I trap ordinary mobs I tag them so theyre in front of me, lay down
the trap on the top of the mob and attack them until theyre below 50%.
Your trap will catch them at this point. So no need to run around and
kite those.
The elite mobs are quite harder. Theyre stunnable/slowable though. So
once theyre close to 50% stun or slow them, run through them just by
pressing forward (no mouse running), lay down your trap and run a few
more steps so you have the trap between you and the mob. Thats how you
make a perfect line. :)

Btw. The elite mobs easily kills my kitty druid if I attack them
face-to-face. I will die in less than 10 secs before I have done even
5% damage to it.

when I start attacking an elite mob I keep a distance and tag them with
Faerie Swarm for the 50% slow effect. then I cast the talented Moonfire
(in kitty form) until I have 4 combo points. At this point the mob
should be in front of you. Rake and then rip for the main dots. Run
away and kite it in circles while you reapply Faerie Swarm.

Always keep Faerie Swarm applied!
Its also very important that you keep your Rejuvenation up!

Moonfire again on the distance until you have at least 4 combo points.
Run back to the mob, rake and rip again, run away again etc. Rinse and
repeat.
Once the elite mob is just a little above 50% hp you lay down a trap and
then run back to the mob again. Rake+rip again followed by a Faerie
swarm. Kite it a little away from your trap until your trap is off CD.
Now be sure you have the mob somehwere between you and your trap. run
through the mob straight to your trap, lay it down again and run a few
more steps.
So basically its damage/dot, kite, dot, kite... trap, dot, kite, another
trap, profit x2. :)

I rarely go below 75% health by using this strategy.

The exploit is not fixed after this morning's restart of the realms (EU). :)
