How do I get to the Badlands?

Hello,

40th Level Dwarf Priest - ran south of Loch Modan - there is a locked
gate I cannot get through. I need a key or something the person on
the goat tells me when I get there.

Tried going through the Burning Steps - a level ?? Elemental chases me
out.

How do I get to the Badlands?

Travel east from Thelsamar, then south.
You will see the path on your Loch Modan
map marked with dotted lines, that's the
path you want. Near the southern most
part of the lake.

The entrance is in the south of Loch Modan, but farther east than where
you were. Just about in the middle of the southern border.

Does the quest for the key no longer exist? I have heard of numerous people
having trouble getting the key for that gate.. and I remember picking it up
in about 10 minutes.......

As for how to get there without it.. everyone else has already answered.. so
you're in.

The quest is there, it's just not obvious. If memory serves,
you talk to the dwarf at the gate, she tells you to bugger off,
you find a particular named lizard in the south-east of the zone,
kill it, take the hide, and *that* is when you actually get a quest.

kill it, take the hide, and *that* is when you actually get a quest.

Yep. I did this quest within the last month or so, mabye six weeks
(they grow up so fast *sob* *grin*). Kill the lizard, then go talk to
the dwarf girl, she'll send you to ironforge, who will then send you
back to her, and she'll give you the key.

It's not really worth doing aside from novelty, now that there's an
Alliance flight path in Searing Gorge.

I recall it being worth pretty decent XP, which is why I do it on
every character that reaches the appropriate level.

From Thelsamar, go east to the lake, "Loch", go south along the shoreline
until you get to the southern tip--and go straight south. There is an
opening in the mountains leading to the Badlands.

there is a huge gap in the moutains in loch modan, kinda hard to miss really
:)
there is no flight path for alliance in badlands
it's in searing gorge, at the camp in the north west corner of the area
(you won't be able to go thru the middle of the area, just follow the path
around the edge's is safest)

there is a quest in searing gorge to get the key, i binned mine since they
added a flight path which made it useless
i want it back now lol

The locked gate leads to Searing Gorge, not to Badlands. It is no longer
used since there is a flight path in SG.
You go to Badlands just going south from the southernmost part of The Loch
in Loch Modan (btw. main entrance to Uldaman is just on the right side when
you enter Badlands).
If you want to go to Searing Gorge you need to go to Badlands, all the way
to the west until you reach small horde outpost (Kargath). There is a
passage just a bit south of that place. (if I remember correctly when you
enter SG and go south hugging mountains you'll meet a big lizard - it drops
a horn that you need to show to the guard that didn't let you pass the gate
earlier, make short trip to IF and back and you get your key to SG gate, but
as I mentioned earlier, once you discover flight point in SG you'll never
use the gate)

You're going to laugh but you can actually open the gate from the Loch
Modan side if you know how. Just stand next to the lef side of the
gate and hover your mouse over the edges of the wall that touch near
the gate graphic. You see a hand appear over the area where a br is
pulled down to raise the gate ( kind of like reaching thru windows in
some areas of Westlands. Now, mind you the gate goes up, and you can
exit into the Badlands, but don't expect to be able to get back into
the tunnel without the key. It's a one-way solution that hasn't beenn
fixed yet...
