I begin to suspect maybe the writers are setting up the next major
upgrade to be a reboot of Wrath of the Lich King (just as Legion was a
reboot of Burning Legion), with Silvanas as the new Lich King, and
Hoard and Alliance once again having a common enemy. And the writers
are so caught up in that, that they're neglecting making this upgrade
playable in it's own right.

P.S. I also suspect they may be running out of server space, so they
take things away, Darnasus, Undercity, Silthis, Argus (which they only
just added), and artifact weapons, to make room for other, newer
things, e.g. Kul Tiras, Zandalar, and Azurite (which, based on the
last couple expansions, (artifact weapons, garrisons) they'll take
away with the next one, just as people are getting used to using it).

BTW I'm a casual solo player. I haven't unlocked any of the
Pathfinders yet, nor have I unlocked any of the allied races (though
I'm working on building rep with the nightfallen (on a 112 Night Elf
Demon Hunter in Suramar)). Also, I've yet to get all five pillars on
any of my alts.

Nope. We haven't even gotten to the "Battle" part of Battle for Azeroth.

Oh wait, you think all this pointless PVP is the Battle? Ahahahaha <SMH>
No, no. That's coming in 8.2 and later.

tl;dr: Everything so far is a distraction.

Uh no. Where did you get this idea? For one thing, the only thing in
your list they actually took away was Artifact Power.
