While playing Horde I sometimes receive a stream of notices from the World
Defense channel telling me "Darkshore is under attack". Does anyone know
what or where this is?

Heh, it's a mystery. Strange thing is, if it was only one NPC it should be a
couple of notices not the 20 or 30 I get. It appears as if there is a
prolonged attack on several NPC's over a decent length of time. This could
all be some in-game anomaly though.

cheers.

...but then the alliance would see "darkshore is under attack", not the
horde

It means a citizen, guard, or quest NPC is being attacked, somewhere in
Darkshore. And it isn't anywhere in the specific named areas, such as
Auberdine or Grove of the Ancients, or the message would say that. So
it's likely a quest NPC standing out in the middle of nowhere.

But is there such an NPC in Darkshore who is a member of the Horde
faction? The OP was playing a Horde character at the time and so
shouldn't be getting any World Defense messages from Darkshore which is
an Alliance zone.

That was my first thought but Zoram'Gar is definitely in Ashenvale. And the
World Defence Channel would list it as "Zoram'Gar is under attack".

Thottbot doesn't list any Horde quests in Darkshore. Allakhazam does
list a few, but it looks like they're mistakes.

Maybe it's a neutral NPC, so it would appear on both factions'
WorldDefense channels?

Maybe that little person at the north part of the zone with the robot
that has gone astray is a neutral NPC? Or maybe the robot?

I have seen the message on WorldDefense myself and wondered about it.
I wonder if you could attack the guys in your own capital cities who
are from the NPC factions, and cause the alarm to go off. Imagine
being a Tauren somewhere in Kalimdor, and you see a message,
"Stormwind is under attack."
