Logging out in mid-flight

I was curious what would happen if a sickly warrior (some undead hit me
with some stuff I need to wear off over 10 minutes) flying on
gryphon-back tried to log out.

to my surprise, it let me do it. Logged back in, and was right where I
was when I logged off earlier.

Also, it let me log of instantly with no delay, even though the char
portrait did not show zzzz.

Nothing earthshattering, but I thought it might not let me do that.

By that you mean you were still in flight on the griffin when you logged
back in?

He does. If you logout (not 'exit game') while in flight, you will
logout immediately as the game assumes you are not trying play 'funny
buggers'. When you login again, you'll be back on your
Hippo/Gryph/Bat/Wyvern at the same spot, flying to the same destination
as when you logged out.

hmmm... What would have happened if I then exited after logging out?

Gotta try that. :-)

I just have. You still jump back to exactly where you were mid-flight.
Surprising, I suppose.

Actually I would have surprised if the results were different between
game exit and logout. I think that the two should be indistinguishable
in game play.

If you're interested in seeing it, try yourself :-)
As far as I remember, exit game is like closing the WoW thread
manually - no 20s wait for logging out.

Hmm. I wonder what would have happened if someone had logged out while
flying to Valor's Rest.

Yep. That was what surprised me about it. Flying over the exact same
spot too. I went into stasis while the world around me changed.

Yes. Same if you exit (vice log out.)

MOST of the world continues in your absence, but movement & certain
buffs are stuck to "you", and so remain where you are, and go into
stasis when you log out/exit/disconnect.
