Discussion:
selling BoP items in the AH

According to the 2.4.2 patch notes, several items (such as Recipe: Flask of
Chromatic Resistance) are to become BoP. In my eternal quest to make more
gold, I'm wondering what would happen if I were to purchase a quantity of
such items.

When 2.4.2 comes out and you have this item in inventory do they instantly
become soulbound? or do they become BoP? or do they remain as-is? If they are
BoP, can they be sold in the AH?

I have a feeling that Blizzard has already though of this and closed this
loophole, but it's an interesting idea to try out, and could be worth some
serious money... [Although I'd feel mightly silly if 2.4.2 rolled out and I
had 20-stacks of soulbound alchemy recipes]

The change will happen to the ones in your bag also, today would be the
time to get them and stick them in the AH before the change happens,
people who want them will be going mad looking for them before the change.

They will become soulbound to you - when 2.3 made some previously white low
lvl instance items into blue BoP items I farmed a couple and sent them to
my alts, and they became soulbound when the patch hit. Which included the
one I didn't pick up on a lvl 1 alt and was returned to the sender... so my
lvl 70 warlock had a pair of soulbound lvl 15 blue leather shoulders, oops
;-)

Apparently so. Some items, like the discontinued Large Rope Nets,
all became BOP at some patch, and some people had bankers
that suddently owned them.

Nope.

I'm sure they will turn BOP after the patch, so this won't work.

What I'm thinking about is buy some and put them up on the AH for
2 days right before patch day; hopefully, they will be buyable
from the AH for a day or so, before returning to you as a
near-worthless BOP.

It *might* work to wrap them in wrapping paper, too.

"Many items sold by reputation vendors are now Bind on Pickup"

As you'll need the reputation to USE them, you can buy them
yourself at the vendors when you gained rep.

No downsides except you have to go to the vendor yourself.

Yep, I tried yesterday. I bought a jewelcrafting recipe with my miner-
engineer, and sent it to my jewelcrafter, who was unable to learn it.
