Do I need LEGION for the new mechanical pets?

I am referring to the two mechanical pets that are tamable in
Gnomeregan. I am only upgraded to Warlords of Draenor. Do I need the
latest expansion to get those two pets?

I don't believe you will need it, as goblin and gnome hunters can tame
mechanical pets as inbuilt class abilities, and goblin hunters existed
before Legion, while I'm sure gnome hunters do not require the
expansion.

If you are *not* a goblin or a gnome, you'll need to buy a
http://www.wowhead.com/item=134125/mecha-bond-imprint-matrix from the
AH (engineers can craft them), which will teach you the ability. I
can't see anything in that to say it can't be used without the
expansion, so hopefully it'll work for you!

I am a Dwarf engineer. So I do need the matrix but I can make it
myself. But it seems I can only buy the schematic from an NPC in 'New
Dalaran'. The item itself is BoP so I won't be seeing it in the AH.
One of the ingredients I need to make the matrix is something called
Blood of Sargeras. Another BoP item. From what I can see, both New
Dalaran and Blood of Sargeras were added in Legion, not WoD. That
being the case, I am guessing that if I want to buy the schematic and
make the matrix myself, then I must buy Legion.

Could you or someone else please let me know if I am right about that
or not?

The item is not BoP - there are several on my realm's AH, which show
as usable for my blood elf hunter (he hasn't got the gold to actually
buy one lol) - the only difficulty with buying one might be supply, as
it's not that easy to get the recipe, possibly lower population realms
might not always have them in stock on the AH; there were only 4 on my
AH, which is o a very populated realm.

You're right that *crafting* the item needs Legion, but I cannot see
any signs that you cannot buy and use it without Legion - that seems a
far better option than jumping through hoops to craft your own! :-)

You will not be able to make the matrix yourself without Legion, but I
don't think it is BOP and you should be able to buy it in the AH.
