I've always run the strictest anti-ad setting on wowhead. This is not
the first time they've spread malware. Between that and the porny adds
they often run, I refuse to go anywhere near wowhead without
ad-blocking.

Yep, it's happened time after time on that site, every time I started
to feel bad about using them so much with adblock enabled, another
case would come up and I'd just continue blocking all the ads.

As it is I now have their patron membership so ads are just plain
removed for me - they have a nice deal where if you gain enough rep
for helping with their content, they consider you've contributed
enough and give you patron for free, and as I run their addon and
contribute comments now and again, I got there, great :-) Tbh I'd
consider paying for it too, given how very much I use it, but they
only reduced the price down to a reasonable level very recently,
before that it was way too high, and by the time they set it at a
level I'd be happy to pay, I had it for free anyway.

Oh, they've also been hacked numerous times without revealing it. I have a
special + address for wowhead, and it has never been posted anywhere or
used for anything but logging in to wowhead. Yet it gets torrents of
spam.

Their collector app is windows only, so I don't have the choice of
running it. However, based on their pathetic security, I would not run
it anyway, since I do not trust them not to infect my machine with
shitware.

I am *deeply* disappointed in Blizzard foisting off support duties and
repercussions for writing terrible quest text to wowhead. I find their
directing people to wowhead to be completely irresponsible.

And they are not the only ones. I use the same system of having one address
per site I use and as far as I can tell pretty much every wow related site
I've ever signed up for has been hacked (or willingly sold my e-mail
address). These include:
- wowguru
- wowif
- warcraftpets
- wowhead
- curse

There might be others but these are the ones I receive most spam on.

Cheers

No, I remember when Allakhazam started, and I was already using a wow
site. I can't remember the URL though. Wowhq? Wowdb?
