Quest bugged: Easing into Lumberjacking

I have come across a bugged quest. I built a lumbermill in my Garrison and
have now been tasked with marking a tree just outside my garrison. I can
easily find the tree, it's marked with a blue circle on the minimap and it
sparkles when I stand next to it. However, I am unable to interact with it.

Searching on the net, it seems to be a known issue. One suggested fix is to
group up with someone from another server. I've tried this but that didn't
work. I've also tried relogging while standing next to it, no luck. Another
solution is apparently to revisit the tree after server reset (which is
still a few days away).

I've opened a ticket but the current response time is 4 days, by which time
I'll almost be gone again :-(

Does anyone here have an idea on how to solve this?

Cheers

As usual it is getting fuzzy, but are you using the correct mouse click?
I always get confused switching games and keep trying to use the
wrong buttons.
abandon quest? although I don't recall if it is a questlog entry or just
a state to achieve.
overwrite the mill with something else then build the mill again?
expensive

Are any other trees highlighting on the map? maybe you can click them.
there should be quite a few to the north of the draenic village se of
the garrison.
I like the way their outline glows when they are at fade-to-grey
distance :-)

Also with trees, oh the number of times I have harvested a tree then
been stuck to it by standing too close:-( . Relog, no use. And with the
bugs/server overload couldn't hearth to inn or garrison, and then on
cooldown anyway. sigh.
Why do they trigger the cooldown when it fails grrr.

Yepp, Tried both of them. Nothing works. Also, my mouse cursor does not
change when moving over the tree.

It's a quest log entry, and I've tried that twice already without success.

Naw, not worth it for my brief visit.

Yeah, I can see those and with them the cursor changes to the saw wheel.
However, trying to click them I get the message that I need the lumber mill
first (though I have it, just unable to do the "opener quest").

Drop the quest, logout of client completely , then try it? this is just
random button pushing.

Since you aren't there for long the resources from trees aren't all that
great anyway, if you were grinding to 100 you would get a lot more gr
from rares etc than the 120 a day from the mill work orders.
6 per day x 20??
Also you have to get the timber as well, lvl1 give half a work order or
so, but at first it used to be rare to find any timber outside 1am-5am
If you can see any it means most chars have moved on.
Pretty quickly you start finding many need lvl2 mill then lvl 3, the
small timber become rarer and you can't harvest the larger timber. If
you aren't harvesting you aren't distracted, or stuck in a tree with 5
mobs and a rare respawning constantly on you :-).

Yep, was going to say it's 6x30 a day but eh, I've got the follower
for it, which ofc you can't get until lvl 3, so 120 it is for Urbin.
I'd say just go hunting treasure instead, it'll bring in far more
resources for the limited amount of time and hopefully the quest will
fix itself with the weekly reset on Wednesday. Can always replace with
another building you can get more fun out of!

Not so important since you have pets.
If you get the chit to buy plans in stormshield consider getting lvl 2
barracks and use your bodyguard. The extra dps/skills makes levelling
quite a bit faster.

The DK from stormshield is very efficient with its skills for tanking
and aoe.
Although a bit psycho with bunched mobs, you can't control it like a
pet. Useless the few times you have to control/capture a mob and you can
miss tags/kills but generally very useful. You can send it back to base
any time.

If it dies you can't use it for an hour but you can go back to garrison
and use another in that time if you have 2 bodyguard followers.

Yeah, you have to get that specific tree for that quest.

Are you sure it's the right tree? As I recall there's a little stand of
trees, the one you need to click is on the west side of that stand.

Yes. It's smack in the middle of the blue circle and it's got a sparkling
trunk.

As it turns out, the cross-realm invitation made it possible to click on it,
as many had described on the forums.

So now I'm good to go.

Cheers

Known bug as you also said. Luckily I got it on the first xrealm invite
when I got the quest on an alt while a guildie I was grouped up with
couldnt lumber the same tree. He got it when he was invited to another
realm though. If you dont know other peeps you can always add me and
let me invite you to my realm (darkmoon faire). PeterT#2642.

Ah, that worked. I sent a friend request to Peter last night and this
morning when I breifly went online to check my mission progress he had
accepted and was online.

A quick whisper, he invited me and the sparkling unresponsive tree suddenly
turned my cursor into a saw wheel. One click and a few seconds later me
quest was finally done.

Thanks again for your help, Peter.

That bug was reported way back in beta. Go go quality control team.

On the cliff nw of the draenic village you may see a large fallen tree
trunk spawn , harvesting it gives a follower
It appears on a low flat top mound next to the top of the cliff, sightly
sw of an ancient tree mob path.

http://www.wowhead.com/follower=195.1/weldon-barov#comments
and they give a short quest chain once back in garrison,
it completes with random lumbering.

Gives a modestly useful trinket for practically no effort
http://www.wowhead.com/item=116154
although sometimes the peons are bugged, they do nothing

The fallen tree also appears in other zones so no point in camping the
one spot.

When you run into the brother the adds can hit hard, just target and
kill the brother and they despawn.

I actually ran into Weldon Barov while riding around the southernmost zone
and encountered a fallen log. Picked up the quest and when I was back at my
Garrison rode out to find Alexis. He was a pushover, but I guess me being 97
helped :-)
