On the weekend I walked past one of the big multiplex cinemas and saw that
they had a huge poster out for the warcraft movie, supposedly coming to
cinemas here on May 26.

After first talking about a warcraft movie everything had gone quiet, so I
was very surprised to see that it is about to show. Does anyone know
anything about the movie or has already seen it (or is it launching world
wide on the 26th)?

I'm going to see it of course, just out of curiosity.

Cheers

The launch is worldwide towards the end of May, different countries
get different days (I think we're early June in the UK), so nobody's
seen it yet, but there are a number of trailers that can be found
online, I imagine a quick Google will turn some up. Looks kinda cool,
but the trailers give such short glimpses of scenes that you can't
tell much from them, just get a vague idea of people and places!

It's set in the time of Warcraft 1, where the orcs first invade
Azeroth, but does differ a bit from the known story (not surprisingly
as I believe the original game really focussed on the human side of it
and didn't give the orcs much of a point of view), so it's mainly
involving people like Anduin Lothar, King Llane, Medivh, Khadgar,
Durotan, Orgrim Doomhammer, Gul'dan, etc - I guess many of the same
orcs as we've seen in WoD, the humans are more legendary names of the
past :-)

I never normally watch films but have to make an exception for this
one... not sure I'll get over my dislike of crowds enough to go to the
cinema though, so hopefully it won't take too long to reach DVD or
some kind of online viewing!

Really? Even people who have never heard of Blizzard know about this
movie. There's been trailers and teasers and ads for months.

As far as I know, it opens on 10 June, not 26 May.

If I didn't follow WoW news I'd know nothing about it; probably same
applies to most people who don't follow all the latest film news!
Maybe I'm unusual in having absolutely zero interest in films but
still, it's not been talked about on any news source or site I follow
outside of the WoW ones.

People who don't follow film news, never go to movies (the trailers have
been in theatres for months), watch TV (the trailers have been on TV for
months here) or use the web (the trailers have been advertised all over
the web for months).

That seems odd. I've not sought out any news on the movie and I've still
seen the trailer several times. (I'm not impressed).

You'd think large movies would stop doing that. There is no upside to it
anymore.

He [Carrot] could lead armies, Angua thought. He really could. Some
people have inspired whole countries to great deeds because of the power
of their vision. And so could he. Not because he dreams about marching
hordes, or world domination, or an empire of a thousand years. Just
because he thinks that everyone's really decent underneath and would get
along just fine if only they made an effort, and he believes that
strongly it burns like a flame that is bigger than he is.

Many people who use the web also use adblockers :-P Likewise many of
us skip through the ads on tv (or watch channels which don't have ads
- BBC over here is ad-free), or get up and do something else - and on
the rare occasion I have actually seen ads, there have been no
Warcraft ones on.

I've seen it plenty of times, but exclusively via MMO-C and the like,
nowhere else.

Yeah, all it achieves is a) annoying a lot of people and b)
encouraging piracy. Genius.

Not just, the other thing it does is tank a movie that is not very good,
since there will be plenty of reviews from first releases for poepe in
the US to read.

We'll I've obviously heard about Blizzard, I even heard about the film
project a few years ago but not since then. I go to the movies once a week
and have not once seen a trailer.

Maybe in the US. Over here in Europe it seems to launch on May 25 and 26
according to the link Catriona posted. The poster here in Switzerland most
definitely said May 26.

I guess that's my chance of seeing it first then posting spoilers to a.g.w

I wouldn't mind. I will probably end up seeing it anyway, but it's not
something I'm looking forward to.

Rumor is there supposed to be some sort of tie-in to the game. Free
month? Free WoW 6 with ticket purchase? Not sure, haven't really looked.
