I like having the health/mana/energy/etc bars visible only when I'm in
combat, and completely transparent otherwise. But the problem with this
is that when I do any kind of casting out of combat, such as healing or
skinning, it won't show the casting bar, so I have no sense of how long
I'm casting (it feels a lot like when the game freezes while you're in
the middle of casting!).

Is there a way around this, or is it simply one way or the other?

You could get another addon to display you cast bar maybe,
Natura_Enemy_cast_bar will also show you cast bar too I think, so
you'll be able to see it when you're healing yourself.

Plus it also shows the cast bars of people round you, so you can see
in a party when somone is about to heal you, or cast shackle etc... It
also shows when the shackle is going to break too and other timers.

You could load a nice ace unit frames mod like ag_unitframes, that turns a
part of your unit frame into a cast bar for ya.

Hmm, so complicated. For now I just have the transparency set very low
for "OOC and not full", so this way it shows the cast bar OOC very
dimly. At least that way I see something and have a timer.

Of course, the problem with this is it's part of the option of "OOC and
target", so I see all these bars every time I target or talk to someone. :(

Nothing's perfect........

I use ArcHud and it shows my cast-time when I'm OOC and full, but
hides it otherwise. And, it even shows Flight Time when I use Drysk's
Flight Map.

Kint1 :)

I was testing ArcHUD, but it just seems a little ugly. I don't like the
"sliver" bars, and I didn't see a way to change the design. Plus it's a
little too wide on the screen.
