I remember that it was better to have a slow mainhand weapon than
a fast one, but that it was all supposed to change with the patch
v1.8. What's the final answer on this?

Similar question about Warriors. I've heard that its better
for Warriors to have a slow 2H while Paladins should have
a fast 2H.

I used a 2H axe for a long time (not sure of the speed... 3.20 I think),
but found myself waiting longer for rage to build up.

I grouped up with another warrior who was dual-wielding and I was hooked.
I bought a sword and an axe and dual-wielding seems to work so much better
since I'm able to build up rage quicker.

For instant attacks it comes down to which has the highest damage range,
which are still gonna be on the slower weapons.

So as a rogue I still use a slow main hand and a fast off hand for more poison
procs.

Not sure if the rage issue makes a difference for warriors though.

The issue was with the way attack power was converted to damage per hit
on instant attacks like Sinister Strike. It used to be that the slower
weapons would benefit much more from the calculation so SS did more
damage with a slow weapon than with a fast weapon.

This has been changed so that the conversion from AP to damage on
instant attacks uses a set speed for the weapon type instead of the
weapon's actual speed. So it is now not better to use a slow dagger
instead of a fast dagger where it used to be (all other stats being
equal). There is still a decision you need to make though - SS damage
will be higher for a slower weapon type than a fast weapon type. A
dagger will do less SS damage than a sword (again all things being
equal).

Just to clarify a little, what you want is a weapon with high top
damage in the main hand, and a weapon with high speed in the offhand.

Normally, this translates to a slower weap in the main hand and a
higher dps weapon because slower weapons tend to have higher top
damage, and faster ones tend to have higher dps.

This is because all dual wielding reduces the speed and damage of the
offhand weapon, so it naturally hits less.

Rogues can't use the arcanite reaper cause we can't use anything
2-handed except the fishing pole (watch out!) and can't use axes ever.
If you'd like a comparison of all the swords in the game from a Rogue's
perspective, go here.
