Discussion:
Guild charter signing

The other evening I was in the SW bank with my main bank alt making auction
plans, organizing stuff, and talking with my husband who was in the room.

Suddenly I received the whisper, "Will you sign my charter?" and the charter
window opened. I was annoyed -- and distracted -- and meant to just close
it, but accidentally signed it in error. I didn't even realize it until she
whispered, "Thanks!"

Argh. I must pay more attention to these things! I shortly received the
message that the guild had been formed, and I did the /gquit thing.

Yesterday I was in SW with the same bank alt setting up my weekend auctions
and discovered that she'd sent me a netherweave bag with a note: "Thanks
for signing my charter."

I was delighted. If this is the new trend I may sign more guild charters!
;) Much nicer than being paid a couple of gold, imo.

Now that is an idea next time I need to start up another Alt guild.
Actually need to do it soon and I finally got the name last night, but
just finding the time...

Of course, I still find asking me to sign and then requesting a
signature before I respond annoying especially when I am in AH. I
have an addon that blocks those from coming in when I am in the bank/
mailbox, but not for the AH..

Anyway, if you do decide to be spiteful next time that happens you can
always sign someone else's charter or join a guild and then they lose
your signature. (Especially annoying when you don't request signatures
until someone volunteers and takes your money and then immediately
goes out and joins-re-joins their guild)

Nice one, I tend to feel like you about charters and avoid signing them,
but nice of that person to send you a gift for doing it! Makes you feel
a lot better about it I bet :-)

Well, at least she asked. It's much better than just popping the dialog up
in your face. Of course, to really make a difference, she should have waited
for your answer before popping up the charter....

With the people who at least ask, I assume they don't realise what happens
to your banking window and I will accept ignorance as long as people are
polite.

In your case I would have probably said "yes, I'll sign, but do you realise
that you just closed my bank window by offering me your charter without
waiting for my answer?" In the two or three cases where this has happened
people told me that they had not known and appologize profusely.

Of course, with those who pop up the charter without asking, I close it and
they land on /ignore.

I got so tired of the window popping up without people asking first, and the
little window popping up to join a guild, that I started my own, just for
me, I went to Goldshire and advertise paying 5 gold for sigs, and in two
minutes I was getting my guild and telling everyone in guild chat "thank
you, now good bye" , then removed from my guild.

Oops. I really didn't mean to make it sound as if I disliked being offered
gold for signing guild charters. As I am often hounded, I think of doing
the same thing, and I'll pay for signatures.

This was just such an unexpected, nice surprise.

Yeah, I don't mean that I turn up my nose at gold -- although I know it
sounded like it. It was such a nice thing for him to do (the alt was
female, the player was male--his wife is the tailor), and a total surprise.
He told me later that one of the reasons he sent me the bag was because I
just signed and didn't ask for anything!

I couldn't quite bring myself to tell him it was a mistake on my part, but
my error has made me realize that one shouldn't be too hasty....

What are you all doing to have guild signing windows pop up at you in a rate
that it annoys you? I dont think anyone asked me to sign a guild charter
over 1 year (maybe 3 total in 3,5 years of wow playing and 6+ max lvl
chars). I just levelled a warrior to lvl 59 and I was guildless till 45 and
didnt get 1 guild invite.
For guild invites to become annoying I should recieve at least 1-2 each
session, do you get guild invites that much?

You're lucky Shammy. My horde characters are not in guilds because I
don't play them often and don't know which guild I might want to join.

I've had guild windows pop up in front of me while fighting a mob at
least twice in the past year. I get a guild invite window once a week in
a major city, always while in the AH or the bank.

I get a whisper a day I'll bet, which I politely answer no to, and thank
the whisperer for not popping a guild window in my face. It's endless on
Cenarion Circle and very annoying.

Much the same experience for me whenever i've played low level unguilded
alts; it's put me off being unguilded to the point where I'm just not
logging my alliance characters until I get around to forming a guild to
keep them in (I rather not be in a guild with total strangers so since
I'm guildless there now, forming a guild for myself seems the best
option!).

I'm the same way--people are often judged by the company they keep, and
joining a guild of strangers gives you no assurance that you're not going
to be in a group known server-wide as "those jackasses."

Especially if the extent of the new-member vetting process is "Will you
join my guild."

Can only agree, there's a few guilds around who I prefer to avoid
because their members are either idiots or very elitist, obviously not
all their members are that way but the bad ones end up giving the good
ones a bad name anyway, just because of the tag they carry.

And yeah, I'd never join any guild that invites anyone without knowing
anything about them first - now if you have a friend there who invites
you, that's another matter, because friends of existing members are
usually fine, but guilds that invites literally *anyone* usually end up
full of annoying kids and not very many mature people (because most
better players/more mature people stay the heck away from such guilds)

There are addons you can get that will stop unwanted invites/charters.
I have one (I forget the name) and I find it invaluable.

I use AutoDecline; it prevents blind guild, group, or duel requests.

I did that on the alliance side "Guildless By Choice."

I now have an addon that simply auto-blocks guild signing requests
though. My Horde toons have never seen such a window... :-)

I say thank a lot!
After reading your post, i've tried with one of my never-used alts to
make a bank asking a charter signature with a gift (16-slot bag)...
took me 5 minutes to make my own guild, after this kicked all (gave
the bag, obviously) and made my firs REAL bank!
ty a lot!
