I was playing my rogue the other day. He was level 23 at the time. I
split his leveling between Tirisfal, Eversong, Silverpine, and
Ghostlands, with the only trips out of those zones to do his lock
picking and poison quests. I was down to 4 remaining Silverpine
quests. First I went out to the island in the lake, and killed Thul.
Not hard at all at level 23. Then I went out to the Greymane wall to
kill an NPC there. This is where things started to get interesting.
While at the wall, I stealthed around a little bit. There are only 2
quests I know of that even send you to this place, and both are to
kill 1 individual and take some part of their body. One of them is
warlock only. Since these guys are usually easily grabbed, I've never
fought my way all the way to the gate. Well, I stealthed up there and
found a friendly vendor standing amongst the hostile mobs. He sells
weapons, and repairs, and had a green 2handed sword and a green bow.
This got me interested in exploring a little bit. I've been through
Silverpine countless times and never knew that guy was there.
So my next stop was over at Ambermill, a small town full of Dalaran
citizens. I had to kill the named guy inside the building. I have
always hated this quest. The mobs in the building he is in are too
close together to pull individually. You pull 1, you pull the whole
room. Not so for a rogue. I stealthed in, past all the mobs and back
to the guy I needed. Next, I sapped the guard closest to him,
breaking the chain. So when I attacked the named guy, I didn't pull
any extra's. Wore the main guy down as quickly as possible, but
wasn't fast enough. Just after killing and looting, sap broke and the
whole room pulled. Vanish ftw.
I decided to stealth and explore around this area as well, as this was
another place I had never really explored. I found a chest, set way
away from the main questing areas of this place. I decide to open it,
figuring very few people have ever opened it. There was 1 mob near
it, a level 18 gnome mage mob. I stealth up behind and hit Ambush.
At level 23, I Ambush crit 1 shot a level 18 mob, was kinda shocked.
Explored around a bit more, and found a rare spawn mob. She was in a
building with 2 other mobs (and a voidwalker minion). I figure, might
as well. Snuck in, sapped 1 mob, set in on the rare spawn and downed
her quickly. Looted and tried to vanish, but forgot I had just used
it, and I died.
Thats when I looked at what I had just looted and was in total shock
at what I found. [Cat Carrier (Black Tabby)]. Some of you alliance
players might be saying "So what, you can buy a cat in Stormwind."
But keep in mind, I'm a horde player. There aren't too many cats to
be had for a horde player. In fact, the only other cat I know of is
sold by a vendor in Netherstorm. I looked it up on wowhead and saw
that all the mobs there have a small chance to drop the pet, but the
rare spawn has about a 15% drop chance. Then I notice the pet is Bind
on Use. I briefly consider selling it, but then I decide to keep it,
but not on my rogue, who had done all the hard work. I sent it to my
warlock, figuring a black cat is a very fitting pet for a warlock.
I explored a little bit more after that, heading up to Berin's Peril,
finishing my last quest, but finding nothing of interest in the cave.
But it just goes to show that sometimes its worth exploring, even if
you've been there 1000 times.
