I've had my mount for quite some time now. I use it exclusively,
previously because I didn't want to waste bag space carrying multiple
mounts, and now because I like it the most. Whenever I am in a place
I can use it, I'll use it.

Then something odd happened last week. I joined a group to do a group
quest in Grizzly Hills. The rogue I grouped with asked me "where do
you get that mount?" I was kind of thrown back by this, but figured
this must have been a new player who didn't get to experience much of
Outland. I explain they need to go do some daily quests in SMV to get
one.

Last night, while questing out of Argent Stand in Zul'Drak, I was
flying out of the Stand when someone whispered me, asking the same
question, this time a warrior.

These mounts aren't exactly rare. If they spent any time in Outland
pre-expansion they are sure to have seen one. Just standing in
Shattrath pre-expansion you would have seen several, and if you go
down to LC you see all the colors available.

No one has ever asked me this question before, yet here I've heard it
twice in a week. If these are brand new players, I find it odd that
they're already mid-70's Even if they were just hitting Outland when
WotLK came out, I still find it odd for a new player to have leveled
15+ levels in less than a month. I guess its not impossible.

And those aren't the only comments I've had on my mount. I've gotten
random whispers from players saying nothing more than "nice mount."
I've even heard it a few times while in Dalaran on my dreadsteed.
Just seems weird that it happens now, years after getting my
dreadsteed and many months after getting my netherdrake.

They probably hit 70 a few months after TBC was released then stopped
playing WoW until WotLK came out.

someone here in this group mention the drakes a little while back, I had
always thought you had to run a stance to get one, and sence I dont like to
group i would never have one, but after the past post I found the quest
chain, and did it right up to the part where you have to kill the guy and
all of the arrow shooters are shooting at you at the same time, that was as
far as I can get, some times being a mage sucks, but I love playing my mage
the most.

thank you

it's not entirely impossible to hit say 70 or so in say 3-4 weeks

you'd have to play alot that's for sure and or maybe get a RAF program

it's also entirely possible that they are people that boight accounts
maybe from a power level or from even someone else's account

maybe they were just starting WoW for awhile and didn't hit outlands
until say a week or two before WoTLK or maybe even after WoTLK

then they can either play alot or maybe they had people play for them
who knows

some people may have seen the mount and played in TBC but didn't
bother to find out how to get one or even do the Dailies for it

I don't have my Netherdrake but that's simply because I consider it
just something cooler looking but i'd rather spend my gaming time on
something else then rep grinds

I might start it though now that I'm 80 and just gearing up

Indeed.

I got 5 toons to level 70 (and one more to 60) in about 3.5 weeks real
time using RAF (and multiboxing), and that included spending a lot of
time on professions.

There is no instance run, but you need a group to kill Zuhuled. To avoid
the arrows shooters, you can clean a room from orcs, summon Zuhuled, and
pull him in the room. Even if you don't like to group, it's only one fight
and it's short.

It happens to me too with my jello dragon. I don't know if I've been
running into new players, or it's just because I'm running into more
players in general because of leveling. It's weird.

Nobody has ever commented on my dragon in the year I've had it, until the
last two weeks when I started flying again. *

The mounts really are very pretty.

While finally obtaining neutral status with Netherwing months ago, I
never grinded rep with them.

Last week I decided to try some of these quests. Decked out in my best
tank gear, I was actually hoping a Dragonmaw Ascendant would aggro me
to see how I would fare, but none did.

Goodness. The mine 40 ore quest was tedious. And that Not-So-Friendly
Skies is not a quest for a Paladin. No matter where I stood on the
Skyway, I could never get a Dragonmaw Transporter in the 30-yard range
of my lone pulling skill (AS). I tried jumping to get closer. Nope. I
got so frustrated I mounted up and flew straight into the mobs. And
they still didn't aggro.

Don't think I'll go back (and when you get transformed into a Fel Orc,
the mount just seems rather large and in the way), but they are still
very pretty mounts.

The dailies that open up initially with them are rather rough, I'll
agree. As you gain rep though, new dailies open up, most of which are
much easier, although some require some travel to complete.

As an alternative, there is a repeatable turn in quest for Netherwing
Eggs. You can find these scattered on the ground, and occasionally
find one while looting a corpse. If I remember correctly, each egg is
worth 250 rep, and with everyone in Northrend, its likely you might be
the only player there gathering these. You can turn these in all the
way to exalted, and it makes unlocking the better dailies much
easier. Eventually you should open the dailies that send you down
into the Netherwing Mines. That place is a prot pallies wet dream,
lots of melee mobs in close proximity down there.

As for the dragonmaw transporters, that quest sucks. Best thing you
can do is stand on the platform they land/take off from, and grab them
there. The drop rate is low, and they have a tendency to bug out.
I've occasionally seen one of them "swimming" through the air after I
aggroed one then had them evade bug on me. They lose their mounts but
continue to fly making swimming motions.

Not so friendly is a crappy quest. The rest are easy if you want the cash
from doing a daily (especially now that they've fixed the ravager respawn
in the mines. Sigh), but the real key to quick netherwing rep is eggs.
Learn where they spawn, and collect boatloads of them for massive rep. with
nobody out there these days, you could probably get exalted in a week. *

I checked back and the netherwing/black temple patch (2.1) was 22 may 2007.
TBC started 16 jan 2007.

Everyone who stopped TBC after 4 months can have missed netherwing.

Having a guild break when trying Kaelthas Sunstrider (eye 25 man)
and burning out on WoW for a while due to that is possible in 4 months.

I probably wouldn't have known about it either. I've never bother
with collecting mounts, and even if a new one caught my eye, my
interest has never been sufficient to ask where it came from.

Yeah, I'm the same. Most of my characters have one of each mount type
the only exception that I can think of is that my Rogue and Priest
each have two epic land mounts as they have the AV wolf due to having
more AV marks than they knew what to do with.
