What is a good set to build for a Shadow Priest..? I have a few Devout
pieces but I have heard multiple poeple say Devout sucks for Shadow Priest -
which I don't understand because Devout seems to rule.

I am a Shadow spec priest so what are better sets than Devout to pursue?

As to sets, the Warlock set is probably best suited for a shadow priest.
That would be a miserable experience though if you instance in pickup
groups - trying to explain to each warlock you're gunning for "their" gear
each run. I don't think I'd bother.

From my standpoint (a shadow priest with limited inclination towards 40man
raiding - I'd rather poke my eye out than go through MC again), I went for
two sets of gear. A +shadow damage (or just +spell damage) for shadow
priestdom and a +healing/mana regen set for when I need to be a designated
healer - which is still pretty much the case any time I instance.

For the most part, Dire Maul will be your friend. Lots of good caster
+damage items and mana regen (primarily DM North and West) and a WHOLE LOT
of cloth +healing items from DM East and, I think, DM North. Go the the
Dire Maul section on thottbot.com, hit the "Phat Loot NPCs" and sort of pick
and choose what you're after. Mind Tap talisman x2 is real handy when
you're in a healing role as a shadow priest as mana becomes a real issue
trying to be the sole healer in a 5-man Strat or Scholo, but lots of classes
want those - pretty stiff competition for them.

There are a few pretty good pieces in UD Strat you'd probably want. There's
a +shadow dmg necklace that falls from the first boss (the mind-controlling
lady, forget her name) and Pallid drops some nice +shadow dmg boots. Also a
pretty good +healing necklace from Ramstein. Warlocks shouldn't be able to
raise bloody hell if you roll on the random +shadow gear, though I'd still
prep them in advance that's what you're after, and maybe tell them you want
their set gear if they already own it. You can't really roll on Devout
stuff as well though - sort of rude to a pickup group.

Going through the painful grind to get the epic Darkmoon Faire necklace will
also really help your shadow setup (+22 damage, some INT and SPI) and, to a
slightly lesser degree, your healing roll.

With two sets of blue gear you can be pretty effective shadow and healer,
provided you swap gear depending on your roll. +250 healing with +35mana/5
seconds or so can really help keep a tank up and get a final heal or two in
before you go out of mana, and isn't hard to hit with a bunch of DM runs.
+175 shadow damage isn't all that tough either and translates to a
significant DPS boost as a shadow priest.

+Shadow damage gear with a heavy lean towards Stamina (for PvP) or Spirit
(for grinding if you kept Spirit Tap) can make you quite effective as a
shadow priest. All the healing gear can make you suited just fine as a
primary healer outside of a guild learning MC or deep into ZG, where a
Disc/Holy spec really helps a blue-equipped guild advance faster.

Hope that helps. Good luck finding groups to run DM - it ain't always easy!

Wow. Great reply, Steve. I'll use all your info for my lvl 51 shadow
