I've been working on 'The Hand' portion of this series, and I need
to get the kelp from the Murloc oracles to summon the
elite....incredibly low drop rate! I must have killed greater than 50
right around the altar last night, and still no kelp.


Anyone have a similar experience?

Yup. Spent an hour killing murlocs this morning. Killing the named npc was
trivial compared to getting the @$#*% kelp.

Yup, I've never managed to get it to drop actually. I only ever tried it
with my warrior, but eventually just gave up. In my opinion, its ranks high
for the title of most annoying quest in the game. 50 isn't too bad though,
me and some friends kept clearing that island out for a couple of hours.
Had to be in the hundreds.

Yes, this takes a while, bring coffee and a sandwich.
I couldn't believe how many time I had to clear that "altar Island".
I did get the drop finally near the altar.

I killed 28 level 37s and 21 level 38 oracles before I got the seaweed. During that time,
I got 3 greens and one blue item, 38 fish scales, 38 fish oils, and 4 scrolls, and
numerous gray items, as well as a few potions.
While leaving the island, I killed two oracles. The second one dropped a seaweed.
DOH!

Dagun: kill the murlocs near the altar (59,8). They appear to have a drop rate on the
order of 5-10%. All of the other murlocs in Dustwallow appear to have a drop rate on the
order of 0.05%. He hits hard, but is eminently kiteable. (I AoE farmed over a hundred
murlocs away from the altar to verify the drop rate elsewhere is poor, and then went to
the altar and got it before I finished clearing around the altar.)

Finally got it last night, so I can probably add another 100 to my
original 50 oracles! Very tedious quest overall with a very poor
payoff.
