warcraft 3 crashes on start

Hey folks,
I've been trying to get WC3 running for about 10 hours. Ten hours wasted,
I'm far beyond frustrated. :-(

the facts:

AMD (I've read that alot of people have problems with AMD and WC3, ?)
1700+
256mb
win xp

Warcraft 3 + 1.14 + nocd

newest nvidia driver, newest directx

What happens is, that I can watch the movies and the menu and stuff but I
get kicked out after the intro of the human campaign. The Error msg looks
always the same:

Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 001B:00000000
The instruction at '0x00000000' referenced memory at '0x00000000'.
The memory could not be 'read'.
...

The demo of W3C works well, I can play it without any problems...

I've tried the war3.reg thing but nothing...

This really freaks me out, why is it so that you have to spend the whole day
trying to get a stupid game to run. Why cannot these blizzard people get
stuff done and working?


If anyone has a good idea what crazy stuff I can try to get it run.....

That is pure utter crap. I'm AMD 1.7 on DFI motherboard.

Perhaps you should try without the no cd crack? I dunno.

whats the difference between the normal and the TFT version?

I can play custom maps and multiplayer games, it seems as if it only crashs
after any movie clips.

maybe this is a hint to something, I donno, is there a way of switching all
movies off?

I believe you'll get tons of response towards this but it all boils down to
"More units to play with" :-)

Test DirectX, DirectSound via Start/Run/Dxdiag. If no problems is found you
might want to try to look at updating your sound drivers (since you said you
already have the most updated display drivers).

You sholud change graphic card driver.
I think this is it.

Yes run a thorough memory test.

Go through your bios and turn off everything that sounds cool.

Check your GPU, northbridge, CPU and memory's temperature (finger works)

Downclock your video card

Downclock your ram (as he said)

Reduce AMD multiplier (serious underclock) or just reduce FSB to match ram

Check voltages and make sure they are steady

Ensure you have up to date surge protection

Run scandisk

Scan for viruses

Reinstall windows

Don't use a hack

Disable unused windows services ( go to www.blackviper.com)
