i spent a lot of time and money getting my whirlwind axe for which i am
very fond.

however, now im venturing in to SM and have seen the potential delights
of boss drops from Herod in ARM i am thinking .....are the days of
whirlwind numbered ? and long live the ravenger axe ?

Or do i use both,

any similar experiences or comments on either would be great before i
spam "neeeeed" on the drop.

Ps its a bad habit of mine, but i pass on all the main drops if they
are not mail armour or weapon of use to me..before i get accused of
ninja tactics..

Whirlwind Axe - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=4187

Ravager - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=4578

Can't quite figure out how useful or how often that proc will kick in,
so it's not clear if the Ravager is just cool or super cool. Also, will
it break all nearby CC when it procs? Could be bad for groups.

In any case, if you don't have a need for it, what other class would?
Pally? Hunter? I would just take the weapon and give it some swings,
since hunters and pallys will want some more useful stats on their gear
anyhow.

You can get the whirlwind axe at level 30, if you have friends to lead
you through the quest. The ravenger is what? 37? I can't see tthot from
work so I'm not sure. Thats the main difference....not sure what the
dps difference is but the ravenger has an AoE proc....thats absoltely
awful for instances and groups....and since its a proc what are the
chances of it going off when you need to AoE? I'd stick with the
whirwind.

yeh id also stick with the ww axe - the stats outweigh that proc imo

I suggest staying with the whirlwind axe. The better dps on ravenger
can be neglected due to +15 strength on whirlwind. When you see the
first 40-dps weapon drop, then you might shout 'neeeeeed' :)

Bart

P.S. nice habbit of yours, will make you many friends, but what
about none-armour-, none-weapon-stuff such as gems, books,
elementals ...

I had the ravager for a while on my Shaman, and man, it was annoying as
hell. The proc, while looking cool, was a pain to cancel in the
middle, say if you wanted to run, or heal, or do anything. And yes, it
will break nearby crowd control so a big no no in instances.

Talking SM drops, you may be better off with
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=3567, no strength, but damn it was cool, I
had that for quite some time.

in answer to "what about the other drops" in that situation i do greed
roll, and typically being the warrior ....i lose...

I really should stop whinging about being a warrior ..lol

As for Whrlwind vs Ravenger i have plumped for whrlwind as i am
enjoying the instances at the mo.

By the way i have to say that since i got whrlwnd and have been to SM
and found Desolace i have leveled quite quickly (now lvl 39).

For info purposes i have 3 weapon combinations

1) battle stance / beserker - instances- Whrlwind axe

2) battle stance - soloing - Jade serpent blade sword + toxic revenger
dagger combo

3) defensive stance - one hand axe and shield

seems to work quite well.

looking forward to a mount though.....
