I've been using the free usenet service aioe.org for the last 4-5 years.
Text-only groups, retention is about 90-100 days and it works flawlessly.

I always had trouble using mail/news with groups/gmail

Gmail forces encryption and keeps a different set of read/sent lists for
offline and web interfaces. It also starts to misbehave and challenge if
I change locations. And I don't like the web interface :-)

Security is all fine but like those text/image challenges what is the
point if it take 20 tries before you get one you can read. A machine
would probably do better than me.
EvolvedTurning test, is it slow and error prone enough to be human
no mistakes then lock it out :-)

Yes it the normal way, but I had no record out
but now it is in place by little mail back and forth to my server adm.
