[WoW] Dual-wield weapons question ... "one hand" "main hand" "off-hand" etc.

I have a question about what kinds of weapons can be dual-wielded
together. Can you wield two "one hand" weapons at once? Or can you
only dual-wield a {one hand|main hand} weapon and an offhand weapon?
What is the difference between one hand and main hand? Can you wield
two offhand weapons? *Sigh*, I'm confused.

Some weapons will say main-hand or ... something else if they can only
be used in the off hand but other than that, any 1 handed weapon can
be used in either hand when dual wielding.

Main hand is just that...main hand only. One hand is either.....

Main hand objects can only be equipped in the weapon slot of your
character sheet.

Off hand objects can only be equipped in the shield slot of your
character sheet.

One hand objects can be equipped in either slot of your character
sheet.

Therefore, the possible dual weild combos are:
main/one
main/off
one/one
one/off
