Well, I spent some time tonight to patch up some seemingly abandoned addons.
With this I am at a working state of most addons again (though I threw some
out, too).

If any of you are interested, updated version of the following addons can be
gotten from http://www.ursbeeli.ch/m_addons.shtml

aggro
AutoRes
CorpseInfo-Urbin
DelMapa-Urbin
FlightMap
GearScoreLite
LootCounter-Urbin
MapRuler

The following addons are pending an update but their authors stated they
were working on it:

DrDamage

The last few addons that I'm not willing to patch (too big or complex) are:
- RecipeBook
- Sheppard
- VisualHeal
if anyone can suggest a replacement addon, I would be grateful.

Well, back to relaxed playing now.

For those of you who are interested (and were incredulous about the number
of my addons), here is a complete list of those working (minus the ones
already mentioned above):

HUGE snip! Ha ha ha ha!

With fewer addons than that, I thought I had too many.
But then I count Titan Bar, Auctioneer, and the like as ONE addon each.
So I probably have the same number as you.

I thought that I'd have a go at Macaroon to see what it can offer me
over Bartender. Wow! That thing's a pain in the arse to configure
compared with Bartender. It's a lot more flexible though and I guess
that comes with a price.

Do you configure it on each character that you have or do you have one
config for all? It seems like I'll need to do it for each class to me
(although the main page does copy over)

One issue that I am having is that you need to configure each page of a
bar independently of the main bar. I have my main bar in an odd shape
to match my N52 keypad like this:

[1][2] [3][4]
[5] [6]
[7][8][9][0][A]

The big pain in the neck is that when I switch the editor to another
stance it has 0 buttons on it! So I have to add 11 buttons, set it to 5
columns, move button 1 left 84 units, button 2 up 42 units, button 3 up
42 across 42 and finally button 4 up 42 and across 42. You don't seem
to be able to copy from another bar and you can't type those numbers in
for fast entry. You just have to click on the arrows until the number
changes to what you want.

Is there a way to copy bar pages/stances to other pages? I'll need to
do this for the main bar (which will be caster form), bear form, cat
form, and prowl on my Druid. Plus I'll need to do it for all the
secondary stances on all my characters (battle stance seems to use the
main bar but I'll need to set up defensive and berserker stances).

I'm not up for that right now..... I'll see if I can be bothered
tomorrow after some sleep. :)

They made quite some changes to the configuration. I haven't yet decided if

I configure it for each character. There is a "store button" functionality
but I have never tried using it and am not sure what it does.

You could try to make this 5 bars. One for 1-2, another for 3-4, two single
button bars for 5 and 6 and the last bar for 7-A. At least you would save
yourselv the positioning of buttons on the bar and bars can be dragged for
positioning.

One thing I still miss from the good old Discord Action Bar is the
possibility to "snap" one bar to another. If Macaroon can do this, I haven't
found out yet.

I really don't like the stance bar. I can't get it into the position
that I want. I'd like it to be centred on my screen but the buttons are
left justified which means the position of "centred" is different for
each character.

It's a minor thing but it bugs the hell out of me. I suppose that I
should check if Macaroon can fix that for me. :)

You can use the profiles option if you want to share/copy configs between
characters. The profiles option is also handy if you want different
buttons/layouts for your different specs.

It took me a while to figure out this too. Here's how I understand it.

The stored buttons area is used for 2 things:
1. Orphaned buttons, as Steve guessed. Everytime you remove a button
from a bar it gets moved to the stored buttson area. Think of it
as a recycle bin :-)
You can remove buttons from the stored buttons area using the
"delete button" button.

2. It's also a way of having off-screen (hidden) buttons/macros, just
like the standard Blizzard /macro screen. Use the "lock row"
checkbox to make sure you can't delete buttons you want to keep.

I use stored buttons for macros I want key-bound, but that I don't want
getting in the way on screen.
For example, I created a new button in there, drag-and-drop my hearthstone
on it, then keybind it to ctrl-H. Now I can use my hearthstone using
ctrl-H.

Linking is more functionality that I don't understand.
I love Macaroon, but the documentation is lacking for some of the more
advanced features.

If you have questions/problems, I suggest posting to the comments page for
Macaroon on wowinterface.com - the author, Maul, seems to keep his eye on that
thread.

Oh, and when you add a button to a bar, the buttons added are taken
from the stored buttons area if there are any (but not those from locked rows).

It can do this. In the bar settings section under where you can change
the bar name is a setting called SnapTo. Set that on two bars and when
you drag one to the other they will snap together. Now they are linked
and will drag together depending upon which bar you drag.

If you drag Bar 2 onto Bar 1 then moving Bar 1 will move both but moving
Bar 2 will just move Bar 2 (and unlink them).

Great. I recall seeing the word "SnapTo" but when I went looking for it
couldn't find it anymore and assume it must have been in a different addon.

Now it is almost perfect. What would really be a blast would be the ability
to set up a bar layout with empty buttons and save this, so I could reuse it
on other characters.

You have Macaroon Profile Manager installed so you have that ability.
I've used it to copy my main bar set up to my other characters.

You right click on the Macaroon launcher and select Profiles. You can
save and load profiles there and each profile has the option of
including Bar Layouts, Button Layouts, Settings and Button Data.

The bit that I am missing is the ability to copy button and bar settings
between bars.

No. It seems like the stored buttons are for adding keybinds to buttons
without them needing to be visible.

I'm ok with it now. I can set up a new bar in that config quite quickly
now. I've since discovered that you can set the action id of the first
button on the bar and then press Radiate to set all the other action
id's incrementally. That's saved me some time.

Overachiever is the last one I want now. I think I have most of my old
stuff working again.

I wanted to try LunarSphere for my button bars after the patch but the
author was having trouble getting it updated due to some significant change
in the API. Ah, looks like the author has an alpha out today:

if anyone can suggest a replacement addon, I would be grateful.
I've not really needed VisualHeal since I started using VuhDo instead of Grid.

VuhDo has a Visual-Heal type bar on *each* person's grid square, so you can see
incoming heals on the whole raid (it's like a ghost health bar behind their
real health bar) - I find this much more useful than VisualHeal, which limts
you to just your current heal target.

Changing from Grid to VuhDo is a big step, but VuhDo has so many nice features
that I'd recommend giving it a go. Just like Grid, it takes a while to get the
config right and get used to it, but once you do it's indispensible.

It does, and so does Healbot too, I think. The functionality behind it was from
a library called LibHealComm that basically used the addon message channels to
broadcast every heal to other LHC users whether they were using Grid, VuhDo or
some other kind of raid frame. Though after 4.0.1 Blizzard added a similar
functionality to their raid frames, and I think at least the updated raid frames
are using that nowadays.

It's a nice change since the amount of stuff addons that read the addon message
channels has to process is a lot smaller now and should give a small performance
boost, at least to people using a lot of addons (or badly coded ones. :). Though
I think I read somewhere that the Blizzard incoming heal feature isn't as accurate
as LHC was. :)

It's a nice change since the amount of stuff addons that read the addon message
channels has to process is a lot smaller now and should give a small performance
boost, at least to people using a lot of addons (or badly coded ones. :). Though
I think I read somewhere that the Blizzard incoming heal feature isn't as accurate
as LHC was. :)
It's not the first time something like that happened. We lost
functionality when Blizzard coded threat meters (we lost the ability
to get a threat table on mobs that we hadn't aggro'd)

if anyone can suggest a replacement addon, I would be grateful.
Changing from Grid to VuhDo is a big step
I have been thinking about trying it out, but so far haven't done so. I
might get around to it one of these days...

Cheers
