I've been playing WoW for about 6 years now, and on the whole it's been
an enjoyable experience.

But it's lost something for me. I don't quite know what but the
direction the story line has been going is not for me.

So, goodbye everybody, and thanks for all of the fish!

Sorry to see you go, but understandable right now, I'm nothing like as
enthusiastic about endgame in this expansion as I usually am, normally
I like whatever is available in WoW, but this time, well I spend most
my time doing old content, not current... :-/ Hopefully, things will
change in either future patches or the next expansion and bring back
the interest level; this one just feels very unfinished to me,
definitely missing a few elements.

Oh well. Things are evolving on my realm according to the rumors. I
still need to complete the last chapters of the cisco book before I get
my well-deserved CCNA + two other exams. Technical stuff. Anyhoo! I
reactive my account june 22th. Because I can. :)

Damn! Im looking forward for being stuck in my garrison again. ;)

Hehe, welcome back (soon) anyway, not a lot has changed :-P You can
pay for your sub with gold as of tomorrow if you think it's a waste of
RL money though. If prices here drop as low as they did in the
American realms, I might well go with that approach, at least for one
of my accounts, paying two subs right now really doesn't feel
justified by the level of content available.

I have read a little about the gold-for-sub time, but not much. A
handful of my old friends has just moved from Darkmoon Faire/Earthen
Ring to Aggramar. According to the peeps I know DMF/ER is close to
empty compared to Agg. Even the good raiding guilds suffers due to lack
of experienced raiders now = lots of guild mergings lately etc.
So I prolly start with transferring my lvl80 hordie mage. If I like the
realm and I maybe get a good start in a new guild I slowly start
transferring all my chars. :)

I still remember the boredom in WoD. So I give it a month and then I
decide what to do. But I'm in lack of trivial time-consuming
hack'n'slash and PVP in the game as my winter and spring has been quite
busy. 3 weeks in Thailand and other 3 weeks with a salmonella-infection
(weight loss ~6 kgs). Im pretty much behind the schedule in the school
due to the salmonella festival...

Yeah, I've been on ER a bit lately on my ironman characters, only tend
to see people from Argent Dawn rather than natives though - there's
still a few people in SW but not that many. If only we weren't
crossrealmed with AD it'd be nearly as quiet as before the merge, bah,
I like quietness!

Ouch, that sucks :-( You may find more to do with WoD now, especially
if 6.2 comes while you're subbed, but personally, I'm bored. Yeah,
there's stuff I've not done yet, and probably should be doing, but
it's so hard to find motivation to leave the garrison at all,
something went very wrong with this one compared with past expansions,
at least for my playstyle.

On the plus side I'm enjoying Diablo 3 more, and rediscovered Portal 2
recently :-)

Sure is :-) I played it a bit when it first came out then took a loong
break so I could forget all the puzzles, worked, as it was like a new
game again ;-) I'll have to download some of the user-created ones now
I think, fun stuff!

Nowadays, inactive accounts act like "starter" accounts, ie you can
play characters under lvl 20 with heavy restrictions. So you can log
in as far as the character screen, and I believe at that point,
there's an option to buy a token, which will take gold from your
characters in order to pay for it. A bit awkward, but from all I hear
it works alright for people who weren't already subbed, you just need
to have enough gold across your characters to pay for a token.

US prices started at 30k and dropped to as low as 20k, EU will start
at 35k (not sure why we're higher, unless we just have more active
high-gold players?), will be interesting to see where our price goes.
I'll happily pay 20k, won't bother if it stays at 30-35k, and if it
goes higher still I might be tempted to put some RL money into it and
get some gold instead...

Wow, that's a lot of gold :-) Based on US prices I could buy about 36
months worth of subs, but I wonder if EU prices might end up a bit
higher... in any case I won't buy much at first as I'm closing in ol
the gold cap so I can look on BMAH for a ZG tiger, no chance of
getting it for less than goldcap on my server, I reckon, so that's my
target! A bit crazy realising that tiger will cost the equivalent of 3
YEARS of subs....

44k and still rising, hmm... it's getting tempting! That said I can
still make that much in a couple of weeks, so probably not worth
paying almost double my regular sub price for it.

I haven't done it from an inactive account BUT even without a sub you
can access lowby chars just like the trial now. Can't actually do much,
but you can access.
Also if your sub expires it offers to buy a token from gold evenly
spread across chars. So comments said, haven't used it.
It MAY offer if you login, assuming you have enough gold.
Started at 35k, currently 22k-ish on oceanic.
Garrison missions could make that in a dozen good gold/ability
missions. With 6 lvl 100 and ~25 100/ilvl625+ followers each that is
pretty much going to happen from gold and lvl3 scavenger vendors.

I bought a few tokens when it started a couple of weeks into a 1 month
sub, then ERP!, not bankable. Since I got them because I usually only
have a few days to actually play it is a bit of a waste to run them all
together, so they just take up slots on a bankers bags.

https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/using-a-wow-token

"If your game time has expired and you can't access your characters, you
can purchase and consume a WoW Token directly from the character select
screen. Each character on the selected realm will contribute gold to the
price of buying the Token."

Same here - Lurk every now when I feel nostalgic, and to see if there is
anything interesting, however I'm going on 16 months without a log on.
My friend next door still plays occasionally, and he was saying the
same thing...I'm wondering how they are maintaining the sub numbers if
people feel like this. I think I remember reading a few months ago that
they were back over the 10 million sub mark. I guess for the new
expansion, but it would be interesting to see what the change will be at
the next report...

This thread is kinda confirming my recent feeling about this group -
while a bunch of you hang out here for old times' sake, I'm the only
one actually still playing, aren't I? ;-) And I can't blame any of you
for stopping, this expansion is a bigger letdown than Cata was for
stuff to do at max lvl, if I didn't have so many things I want to do
in now-soloable old content, I'd have probably quit as well :-/

Personally - Time commitment was a big secondary issue besides the lack
of desire, so I did not get locked into a console or PC game since, and
primarily am into a few games on my tablet. I currently am big into the
apps "Castle Clash" and also invest a little into 'Clash of Clans', but
have my own guild (clan) just so I get left alone and not feel the
pressure of having to raid... The family comes first and other outside
activities have filled in my former gaming time. Bought an 30 foot RV a
few years ago and spend every other weekend bringing it out on the beach
in spring, summer and fall... I only feel bad for my gaming PC...If it
could scream of boredom it would, as my little girl is playing Wizard101
on it....But hey, the graphics and frame rate are killer!!! lol

BTW - Regarding lurking on here: I check about once a month or two
(unless I comment, in which I will check more often). I breeze over
things I really don't know too much about that came on this last
expansion (garrisons, etc,) and read other subjects more in depth like
this, or the thread on unsubbed accounts...Just FYI, that's all :)

There's still a fair number playing, but nowhere near as many as at
expansion launch; I run the Censusplus addon while I play and at peak
times it reports about 3-4k online, this is on a VERY high pop server
which had 7.5k online at peak times when WoD launched (after the realm
population cap was raised). So we're down to about half our previous
population, and mainly it only gets that high on what are likely to be
raid nights, with BRF being still fairly new.

I don't have many friends still active in the game anyway, but of
those I do have, the only one still playing is like me and focussing
on old content, I basically see him online Wed-Fri while he runs
through all the old raids, then hardly see him again till the weekly
lockouts reset!

I'm playing Diablo 3 when I'm not on WoW, was having fun on a new
seasonal character till 6.1 came out and I ended up back on WoW, I'm
no good at focussing on more than one game at a time. I will get back
to it soon though, also want to spend more time on Hearthstone, it's
fun but I don't play enough to collect all the cards I want, plus I'm
frankly just not very good at it!

Pretty much the same with me. I played regularly from about 5 months
