Catriona - I think you can answer this. :)

I've found www.wowironman.com for a guildie who herbs and does
archeology a lot. But the rules on this website are for 1-85 only. and
she asked; "what about pet battles?"
I answered "erhhh..." :)

The rules are a little out of date but it's just the same up to 90 :-)

As for pet battles, most of the community says no, but there isn't
sufficient agreement to actually add a rule, since some say dailies
are ok, some say catching rare pets that you find while questing is
ok, some say nothing is ok - I take the safe option and go with zero
pet battles since exp was added for them, but my main ironman did a
whole ton of them before the patch which added exp so I don't look as
clean as I might on that front, sigh.

If your friend is interested, tell her to sign up to
http://wowironmanchallenge.proboards.com/ with any questions - it's
where the most active ironman people are these days. Someone there is
starting a replacement website as the original tracker is a bit
outdated, this one also tracks a pacifist challenge some of us are
doing that might be just right for your friend, as herbing and arch
are both allowed in that variant (professions aren't allowed in the
main challenge): http://wowchallenges.com/ - rules are work in
progress among the few of us still active enough to discuss them lol,
but give it some time and it looks like being useful :-)

Thank you! Actually we are both interested. But as she also said it
seems to be impossible to level up to 5 without killing anything. She
was thinking about professions like herbing in this case. I told her it
was possible without knowing how.

This will be my first iromman char and I have decided to make the char
on a pvp realm. =)

It certainly is possible with professions, although earning the money
to train a profession is a little tougher... on alliance side there
are a few quests in Stormwind which help though, I found until I could
train herb/mining, running around all 4 starter zones plus doing as
many delivery quests as I could find, worked well. I'm trying to
remember if I had to be lvl 5 to learn professions or I was just
limited by money, not sure but I recall a couple of really painful
levels then it got much smoother!

Lol you're crazy, pve is very much recommended hehe. Good luck though!
:-) For regular ironman (including killing stuff), a good memory for
rare spawn locations and treasure chest spawns is very helpful I've
found, massive bonus exp for those, at least if you can find any with
CRZ (it's why I loved Earthen Ring pre-connection; it wasn't
cross-realmed at all so I usually had zones almost to myself)

If you decide to go with pve after your first ganking, Earthen
Ring/Darkmoon Faire has community chat channels for the challenge,
although I have a distinct feeling there's nobody actually in them at
present (I was usually alone a couple of months back and I've been
distracted from playing by other stuff lately, like moving house...) -
alliance = "darkiron" or "ironman" (both have been used over the
years), horde = "ironcurtain" if I remember rightly.

Yeah I can see that at the forum. :) I rolled a char on
skullcrusher(pvp). Seems to be a fresh realm as there were nobody at
the brewfest area at all!

But I have a question! Is questing allowed as long as you dont kill
anything?

Certainly is, if you're on pacifist challenge, on regular ironman
killing is allowed too :-) Beware of some quests though, breaking
iceblocks to free trapped dwarves in Dun Morogh counted as "kills" in
the armory stats for one unlucky pacifist :-( On my pacifist I take
the approach of doing nothing that deals damage, only abilities on my
actionbars are heals, crowd control and stealth, to be on the safe
side!

That's fine, personal preference tbh, I often don't logout in an inn
if I want it to be a bit tougher, but it's fine if you do want to do
that, it's a default part of the game :-) Likewise for any other
unavoidable buffs, if you're pacifist it affects you less, but for
regular ironman, some quests you're escorting NPCs who insist on
buffing you and won't let you click it off, in that case, just accept
it and carry on, get rid when you can!

I dont want the resting bonus and I dont want to kill anything. Also
I've decided not to take any FPs nor use any mounts (if that counts). :)

Level 3 so far just by discovering... ^^

Sounds cool, I'll be impressed if your dedication lasts long lol, not
using mounts gets old fast ;-)

Heheheheeee... True. ;) I seriously hope Blizzard has their eyes on
this and they will make an small ach about the ironman. those who has
done it really deserves an Ironwo/man title imho. I really mean it. :)

I'd absoutely love that, trouble is, however they did it, would upset
people who didn't get it for whatever reason. Or if it was too open
and people who didn't follow the rules the community agrees on got
credit, again, it'd upset people. Would love some recognition though,
especially as it looks like the 6.0 changes will devalue things a bit
- the squish protection unfortunately means large buffs if you're
killing stuff from a previous expansion, we'll have to see how it goes
but it looks like from lvl 61-90ish there'll usually be some very easy
options.

Ok, so it's always emphasised as a personal challenge but it's nice
thinking the other people doing it are following much the same
difficulty curve... but while I'll attempt to minimise the advantage
gained from being able to oneshot stuff, not everyone will, and drama
comes calling when people start accusing each other of cheating lol...

Wow, I'm impressed at that much exploration already, nice going! Good
luck :-) I need to get back to my pacifist soon, it was kinda fun but
also kinda boring, why I'm stuck at 23!

Okay. Im stuck with my pacifist char. Training herbalism or mining
costs me 10 copper. If I vendor all my gear I have 9 copper. That is
for my dwarf warrior.
If I roll a lock and sell all my gear I have 10 copper. Problem solved.
But that doesnt help my warrior.

Do some lowbie quests, there's some in SW that require lvl 1 or 2 or
something like that, and one at least of those gives you some booze
that you can vendor :-)

Just wandering around getting xp from discovery?
I think I got to 10 or 12, years ago anyway.
Don't go to northrend, you get hit long before you even see what is
aggroing on you even in supposedly safe areas.
