Simplest is to get a mage to open a portal for you.

Apart from that - you would go from SW to IronForge via tram, run to
Minithral harbour in Wetlands - then pick up the boat to Auberdine in
Darkshore - then get the boat/Griff from Auberdine to Darnassus.

Run to the wetlands (careful of the scary ogres on the way), make your
way to Menethil Harbor (if you don't get eaten by crocs), and take the
right hand boat to Darkshore...I think. It gets you to the general
vicinity. (It's been a while since I took that boat.)

if you end up in Darkshore, take the boat to Darnassus. If you end up at
the island, walk inside.

Ta da. Now, go buy an owl to celebrate.

and they'd be happy to tell you its destination. But I really like

there a trick to going through it? I was in Duskwood and encountered a
portal to Stormwind City but could not get through it no matter what I
tried. Did not seem to be any other players around it.

portal to Stormwind City but could not get through it no matter what I
tried. Did not seem to be any other players around it.

open one for you. If you can scrape together 50 silver or so, they'll be
*much* more likely to help you out.

Select the mage (left click), right click his portrait, select 'trade'
from the drop-down menu. Type in the amount you want to give him/her in
the appropriate box. Note: the reason you offer money is partly because
it costs the mage money to open a portal... they have to use a reagent
(rune of portals, 20s). If they don't ask or won't accept money, then
they are being especially kind to you... remember to thank them :)

Portals can only be used by people in the mage's party.

So you'll need to find a mage, and ask him to party with you and open a
portal. You should offer some money, since portals consume a reagent
that he has to buy.

If you are fairly lowlevel (up to 15-20) you may have luck just buing the
reagent yourself.
I usually do this and kindly ask a mage if he will open a portal for me and
that I bought a "Rune of portals" already that he can use.

The runes are sold in the reagent vendor store right next to the Inn in
Ironforge. It costs 20 sp (18 if you are honored). At higher levels, I just
buy two runes and let them have both. Cheaper for you, and it saves the mage
from having to cut into their own stack of runes, and having to go to the
vendor for more reagents sooner because of you :)

Oh yeah, and dont ask for Stormwind <--> Ironforge portals ;)

P.S.: My main is a Mage, and this is how I prefer it myself :)

You don't mean that rather spectacular elvish "Stargate" structure in its own
secret valley in the middle of the Duskwood map, do you? That's not the type of
portal they mean :) I'm not sure what that is there for.

The route from Stormwind is tram to Ironforge, go out the gate, head east to
Loch Modan, head north to Wetlands, run to Menethil Harbour (sticking to the
roads throughout), catch the boat to Auberdine, then another boat to Darnassus
shore, where a portal will take you to the island's interior. Make sure you
pick up flight stations at Ironforge, Thelsamar (in Loch Modan), Menethil,
Auberdine and Darnassus: they will shorten your future journeys.

where there is a "£$%-off big dragon wandering around it.

I was with a (admittedly disorganised) group of about 40 60's and we
only got him down about 2% before we wiped (Yes - that's "down 2%" not
"down to 2%").

And there are 4 or these dragons being released in 1.8 !!!!

Should be fun.

Just follow the links and it will download the test client (it merges
with your main - so it not a big download and you can continue to play
test or normal seperately). It will also allow you to create a couple
of level 60 chars, with good kit etc to help test.

It can get busy - but can be fun.

I think it just that you missed the boat - Now that they have released
the 1.8 patch the test realms (and the page I referred to) will be
closed.

Watch out for the 1.9 when they will open again, it should work then.

It is one of the four portals leading to the emerald dream, not released
yet and probably part of the expansion. Another one is in Hinterlands
(seradane or sth), and there are two in the other continent. It is
rumoured that druids will be able to enter the emerald dream, but the
other classes will have to fight the NASTY green dragons for entry
(reasonable, as it is the "resting" place for druids). If you think that
only the dragon boss is hard to kill, try to kill his lowly generals
outside seradane, they will rip you apart.

That portal is going to be used in an update. People noted they are going
to add a dragon to protect the portal. Most likely it will be for 50+
players.

Not a difficult journey for a lvl 14 or so. Before that it will be
tough.

When u get to Auberdine be sure to get the flight path before u take
the boat to Ruttheran. It wont connect to anything, but there's a
fligh path in Ruttheran that will take u back to Auberdine so u wont
have to take the boat any more. It's a free ride and a lot faster
than the boat.
