Found a flower that had been cleansed in Felwood but not used - so
clicked on it and got the 1 hour spell. Very nice too.. doubled crit
rate amongst other things.

Also had just changed from fire mage to frost at level 50 so could do
Cleansing Felwood (which I couldn't have done fro several levels as a
fire mage, I don't think) and get the chance to cleanse the plants
myself. Now getting shards from kills, tainted skins from skinning and
as I have herbalism then also getting some of the plants too (don't
remember name).

Within an hour or two have enough to cleanse 15 plants ....

Very nice... but does feel part of a 'big giveaway sale' when Blizzard
make it quite this good :)

But aren't these just temporary buffs? What bother? Or is it something
different?

It's a repeatable quest so I imagine that you get experience the first
time that you do it.

Yes, just temporary. But then all buffs are temporary.

In days gone by felwood night dragons were heavily camped as they were a
valuable raid resource. I fail to see why a fire mage would struggle any
more than a frost mage at that level. You still have most of the snare
effects a frosty does.

In her 60s my Shadow Priest went back to grind Timbermaw rep (for a
recipe she actually never used). At any rate, she still had some
leftover salve things. I clicked the plant as usual then opened it
only to have nothing happen, except it still used the salve. I tried
it on two other plants. No buff, nothing. I wonder if you don't get
the buff once your character passes a certain level, like how you
can't use a summoning stone, or something.

The Songflowers give you a buff, and the other plants have berries to
harvest. The berries are placed directly in your bags rather than
giving you a loot window. If your bags are full you miss the berries.
Were your bags full?

No, but I was clicking the Songflowers anyway for their buff. The
salve disappeared, the plant disappeared, but no buff. I tried three
times.

I am a horrible packrat who keeps everything, and I had kept this
quest item (plus the beacon) "just in case" I was ever in Felwood
again. I felt rather foolish after I got no buff that I had toted
around these items for so long, especially since I kept having to
purchase more and more bank slots because I never have any bag space
since I'm always holding on to stuff like this. :-)

Songflowers don't disappear they change colour when cleansed and have a CD
on their next charge unless it's changed recently.

"Disappear" in the sense that it was no longer clickable.

At any rate, as Mr. Hibbs has kindly explained, you don't get the buff
if your character is over level 60, which my Priest was. Confusion
solved.

You don't get the buff if you are over 60, same as with the Rend,
Onyxia, and Zandalar buffs.

I used to find cleansed flowers from time to time. It doesn't make sense
that someone would cleanse and then not bother to pick them; I think what
must be happening is that the plant spawns cleansed, but then becomes
corrupted if nobody picks it within a few minutes.

A buff or item is available immediately after a plant is cleansed.
Then it produces another one about 20 minutes later before it becomes
corrupted again.

The two instant healing items (Night Dragon's Breath, Whipper Tuber
Root) are nice because they do not share a cooldown with potions.

The crystal items from Un'Goro crater are also great. They can be
obtained in large amounts if you have gathered or bought enough
crystals.

I always keep a stack of NDB and also Demonic Runes in my bags for
raiding. Every little bit helps. I should go get some Crystal Spire as
well, my huntard sometimes uses those on his pet.

As a mage they are pretty useless since they consume a mana gem cooldown if
i recall correctly.
