I do have a lvl52 Rogue Engineer that can transport himself to gadgetzan.

I heard that sometimes the Transporter has malfunctions and one
fell down from a certain height to the ground.

Can one survive this with the Duskbat Drape?

Equip: Reduces damage from falling.

I already know that an Engineer can build a cloak that slows
down falling speed for 10 secs, but I would prefer to wear the
Duskbat Drape all time.

This used to happen to me about 1 in 5 times. Since about 6 weeks ago ive
transported a few dozen times and it hasnt happened once. Think they got rid
of it.

No they didn't. I just fell to my death a couple of days ago. But, it
has been a long time since that has happened.

Yes, once my hunter retired the parachute cloak from active use she
still keeps it handy for jumping fun and transporter insurance. She
hasn't been dropped in a while though. It used to be she get dropped
more often than not, and it was pretty hairy when the Scourge invasion
was on in Tanaris. You got dropped pretty much right near a Scourge
spawn point.

I have the similar transporter for Wintersprings Everlook teleporter. I've
used it proably about 10 times and the only malfunction I've had is that I
obtain a 'Evil Twin' debuff which appears to do nothing apart from being
there for about an hour.
I've witnessed however someone else arriving at the same teleporter on
fire.. he immolated to his death as he stepped off the transporter within
about 10 seconds of arrival.

It stops you being summoned.

LOL!!! evil twin that's fucking classic. I'm tempted to roll an
engineer now just to see it. is there more on the tooltip for the
debuff appart from "Evil Twin" ?

Does it do anything other than prevent summoning? I don't see the link
between the effect and the debuff, strange.

The tooltip just says "You have been replaced by your evil twin". As to why
summoning doesn't work, presumably the summon is aimed at the *good* twin,
who's in some netherworldly Limbo for an hour and can't be summoned.

Yes you can survive with the cape and it is a fun series of quests to get
it.

My Rogue dies from the malfunction and wears the Duskbat Drape, I'm
note sur why my experience is different from yours. It looks to me
like the malfunction always causes just enough damage to kill you, not
sure if that's consistent with how falling damage usually works.

That aside, the Duskbat Drape is awesome. I always try to convince
rogues who ask to go for it -- and they usually get the head piece,
which they will replace when they've done a few Tier 0 instances.
With DD and Safe Fall, I can jump from towers in AV and take no damage
(and hence, not break stealth). Similarly useful in any number of PvE
situations.

Moonrunner: Ellenfeiss (Human Warlock, 60) Aynrand (Night Elf Rogue, 60)
Maryprankstr (Human Priest, 60) Jackiebrown (Dwarf Warrior, 55)

Yeah my rogue dies too - even with duskbat drape. I usually wear my
parachute cloak and hold my mouse so its on top of the icon when I zone out.
Then I spam click my mouse while loading so I click the parachute as soon as
I load. Usually saves my butt :)

I do the same - and its funny but I get the same answers. People want the
mask to look sneaky and evil I guess. I just figured good capes are much
more rare, and they are - got a "Forors Eyepatch" from ZG and some tier 1
and 2 stuff, but I'm still wearing my Duskbat Drape.
