New spam wave warning

I've been getting flooded by fake Blizzard spam the last day or so, "7
days free game time" etc type. Didn't even open them, but they're
likely to be either leading to malware or to fake websites designed to
extract your account info.

So just a heads-up to be wary of any mails you receive from Blizz;
check message source to be sure where it really came from! Also if you
have the option, set your Battle.net account to a different email
address to anything else; then you can easily see if it's real by
where it was sent to (all my spam comes to the first address I used
for WoW, which I changed years back when such spam first started
happening - makes it very easy to spot :-))

Seconded. I've had it set up like that for years (and not just WoW, but any
site where I need to register a domain).

I've been getting waves of spam/phishing mails to various addresses. First
to the one registered at wowif, then at wowguru, lately to the one I had
registered at warcraftpets. I don't know if all those sites get hacked or if
they work together with the spammers... In any case, it's easy to dismiss
all the threats that they would shut down my account for gold trading if I
didn't follow the link and log on ;-)

Cheers

My best guess; they work together with spammers. Or maybe even worse;
thay *ARE* the spammers! Seriously.
Youre running a site like wowhead and you have to pay the bills
(bandwidth, storage, backups, power etc.). How many peeps clicks the
ads today?
I have no clue about wowhead. This is a hypothetical scenario. Imagine
wowhead is maintained by goldsellers.

I have always used a custom email address for WoW, and I've always
recommend that everyone do this. Even something as simple as using your
gmail account and adding a + address to it.

I never register at any of those sites. I still get shedloads of spam
from the address I (foolishly) used for Curse.

In my case, curse is one of those addresses that hasn't been receiving spam.
Strange that. You'd think that if they sold out, they'd sell out
everything...

Well, it was an address I used way back before they were at curse.com
