Discussion:
Fuzzy text after the patch?
(too old to reply)

Hello,

Is anyone else experiencing blurry text after patching? I thought I was the
only one, but two of my friends said the same thing last night, and all three of
us have ATI cards. All in-game text is affected, but it is particularly bad in
the quest log window and in the "fantasy font" used in mail messages, written
quest items, etc. It gives me eyestrain to read it!

It may be that a driver update will fix it: I'm using Catalyst 4.11 which is
probably a bit old. I'm also using FSAA, which I could try switching off. I
thought I would ask first, though, as I had no such problem before patching, and
I don't want to change unnecessarily a configuration that works well in other
games. Is there a solution? Do Blizzard know about it?

I have that one too, but only in the quest log. It's still readable, but a
little
scattered. I have a GeForce 6800 GT btw...

Me too. GF 6800, and text is a bit scroggy in the quest window.

Have it too, using ATI also.
Had to increase the font size from 12 to 14 to make it more easily readable
again :(

The problem I've had since the patch is that the game graphics are 'darker'
now; ie, when I enter a cave, tunnel, or any normally-darkened area...I get
total darkness and can't see a thing. I fixed it by turning up the
brightness on my monitor, but it was fine before the patch. The brightness
itself causes quest log text to be slightly fuzzy...more like I can see
shadowing behind it than anything...but other text is fine. ATI Radeon 9200
graphics card.

I've noticed it too, especially in the Quest log I find it annoying (I
read it a lot, becaus I prefer to try solve the quest by myself before
checking at thottbot, questkeep or goblinworkshop).

I'm using the Catalyst 6.14, and since the problem does excist with
nVidia cards, I doubt updating the drivers would have any effect.

Wether Blizzard are aware of it, I don't know, but I do intent on
writing something at the Forum if the issue isn't mentioned.

I'm using the Catalyst 6.14,
Wow - you are on some beta program to be on Catalyst 6.14

Catalyst are currently at 5.4 and we wont be on 6.14 until the 14th
update of 2006!!!!

Think you mean you using 2D driver version 6.14.xx.xxxx but the
xx.xxxx are the interesting bit if we want to know what driver version
you on.

Im on Catalyst 5.4 on 9800 Pro and cant say I have noticed a problem.

Suggest you check you on latest drivers before you hit the forums.

Cheers

I've noticed on my iBook with ATI video card that since the patch
capital letters have an extra pixel of lines at the top. Doesn't
reduce readability much, but it is noticeable and annoying.

Is anyone else experiencing blurry text after patching?
Yes. I fixed it completely on one of my computers, partially on the
other, and not at all on my wife's computer. All 3 computers have
different ATI chipsets.

I usually play on my notebook whose native resolution is 1600x1200,
however I played at 1024x768 because that's what my desktop's set to,
for readability reasons. (And yes, I'm fully aware that LCD screens
don't normally look that good when you do things at full screen in
less-than-native resolution, but I promise you WoW looked GREAT before
the 1.4.1 patch.) After the patch I had the problem you describe. I
adjusted the multisampling up (a new feature in the game's Video menu,
if your card supports it), and it KINDA helped. Then I bumped up to
1600x1200 and the text is now crystal clear.

Had the same problem on my desktop, but that monitor's max resolution
is 1280x1024. Switching to that res halfway improved the problem.

My wife plays on a notebook whose native resolution is 1024x768. She's
got the bad text now, and WoW doesn't let her adjust the multisampling
up any more than its current setting, so she's stuck until they fix the
problem.

Is anyone else experiencing blurry text after patching?
Thanks to all of you. Glad to hear it's more common than I thought (if you know
what I mean).

Josh, I'll give the multisampling a try. I noticed it but didn't give it a try
as I didn't know what it meant :)
