WoW Insider closing

Don't know if anyone else here read this site but it's been one of my
favourites for many years now, very sad to see it go. Seems the lead
writers there already have plans for a new project which will fill the
gap, I really hope they can manage it as I'll miss it badly if it goes
entirely. Damn you AOL, yes, I know, economic downturn and all that,
but it is (was) a very valuable site for the community; I always felt
their more indepth and personal/community articles complemented the
more database and news-driven content of MMO-C and Wowhead, the three
together gave a great balance of coverage for me.

I'm in the process of saving copies of what looks like being several
hundred Know Your Lore articles, in case they go offline entirely, as
I always found them a great way to catch up on bits of story I missed,
or good for some interesting speculation - it's actually very hard to
not start reading them as I go along, but I'll never finish if I do
that!

Oh well. I've never cared about the lore. but I have found loads of
other useful information at wowinsider. Too bad theyre stopping. Do
they also shut down their site?

That I don't know as yet, it's down to AOL basically, depends if they
want to keep the space open (and bandwidth in use) or not... who
knows! I now have a folder with 595 lore articles in, so if it does go
offline entirely, I can still read them whenever I want to.

In all fairness the site was never the same since the cutbacks last
year, most of my favourite columns got axed then, so it's less gutting
than it would've been a year ago, but still very disappointing. Maybe
the new project the writers are doing will fill the gap though, I sure
hope so anyway.

WoW Insider is dead, long live BlizzardWatch:
http://blizzardwatch.com/ - obviously, it very bare bones right now,
but certainly looks like it has potential to be a good successor to
WoW Insider, perhaps even better if they raise the funding to revive
some of the columns lost in the cutbacks last year, and to add some
more coverage of other Blizzard games. Fingers crossed :-)

Almost 2k "patrons" and all original funding goals met in under 24
hours, yeah, looks like funding won't be an issue for them at least in
the beginning! Surprised it happened that fast but great news, so long
as they can live up to everyone's hopes now I think they'll do well
:-)
