Well, at least for me.

I have 5 (or maybe 6) quests that require Mythic dungeons. I am on the
Rumor quest in Surmar which appears to be impossible without a
relatively well-coordinated group, and the only other things I have
available to me are running a minimum of 8 heroics a week for 8 weeks
and doing random world quests, nearly none of which give me anything I
need (resources? Gold? Level 835 gear? Meh).

I have looked a bit for mythic groups, but the only one that looked
promising required ilvl 875 which makes me wonder why they were doing
mythics at all.

Yeah, my Artifact isn't QUITE maxed out, but it is close enough.

I've checked for three days for a group on the rumor quest in surmar, no
go.

I did try to solo it, but too may of the mobs instantly break your
disguise, they have 7 million health, and there are multiples. By the
time I get a group killed, there's a pat or a respawn. Ugh.

The world quests are still enjoyable for me, as the 845 gear upgrades
often enough to have a chance of being an upgrade, but yeah, I mainly
do it for AP on my main now.

That quest requiring the 80 drops from heroic dungeons is just
ridiculous, apparently people doing high end mythics need far far less
runs, but for us... well I'm not even going to try. Blizz will cave in
and add a catchup mechanism in a few patches, I'm sure; they did with
the legendary questchains in the past, and this grind is worse, while
the Illidan story is one they've promoted a lot, so they'll surely
want everyone to see it. As such, I'm waiting for the catchup
mechanism lol.

Lol. Yep. I haven't even tried mythics, pug attitudes are why many of
us won't go near the group finder for anything more than a world boss;
it is not a good tool for arranging instanced content. I'm afraid the
main answer is find some friends or a guild... well, my friends play
alliance and I can't be bothered with guild drama, so I'm just not
doing mythics! Not that I'd want to anyway (unless Blizz let me group
with my existing friends), I've always preferred casual content, so
stepping up to heroics when the mythic-only dungeons have their heroic
modes added will be enough for me.

I remember reading those comments about that quest and yet... I had no
trouble lol (not saying that to show off - I was extremely surprised,
considering all the horror stories I'd heard about it!). I'd suggest
doing it on a day where there is a nice lucrative world quest in the
area (ie, people are killing stuff nearby already); get your 4-piece
order hall setbonus equipped (so you can live long enough to either
kill mobs or escape), and then dodge the packs. I was perhaps rather
lucky, as the day I did it there were always people killing stuff, so
almost all the time I only needed to run from clear spot to clear
spot, and just keep moving before something respawned - biggest
problem was when I guessed wrong on the map spot and went in an
occupied building, but my order hall setbonus saved me and I could
just kill the pack in there (slowly :-P)

Another option is careful use of goblin gliders from the vineyard
area, I often use those for getting around that area when quests send
me there. Oh and a tip; the canal bit (where you kill the named guy
for the other quest in that chain) is pretty much out of leash range
of most stuff so you can always jump in there to reset :-)

I guess they want me to swithc to an alt, but It's been a long time
since I got a gear upgrade froma wrold quest. The only things I have
that are 835 are a ring and... no, that might be all. Everything else is

get the drop, so I think I have three? not sure, as I'm not tracking it.

I do not mind the LFG at all. There's no drama, nearly never any
discussion at all, and they go quickly. But I am not going to go join
another guild as I am quite happy in my decimated one where I am nearly
always the only one to login. I get the few perks of being in a guild
without any of the BS.

Yeah, if you can get to it. But then you're basically starting over on
trying to get through the area. I could certainly do it with a few
corpse drags, but I have better things to do, like scrub the bathroom
tiles with an old toothbrush (not that that is something I will ever
do!)

Also, I have 12 Ancient Mana now. That's pretty damn annoying too, and
it is a pain to grind up, which makes that whole rumor quest even more
annoying.

I think everything I have on my main is now 845 or higher (7.1
increased the highest base WQ reward lvl to 845) and my alt is pretty
close to that so yeah, not so many upgrades now, but I enjoy having
the possibility of one, even if most of the time it's not one; sure
beats past expansions where you knew things weren't going to be an
upgrade, so why even try :-)

Yep, I'm not even trying. I've done 5 or 6 heroics and I only sometimes
get the drop, so I think I have three? not sure, as I'm not tracking it.
I believe they hotfixed it recently to be 100% from the last boss. But
that's still 80 heroic dungeons. I've done 0 this expansion, ok, so I
could step up from normals, but I don't run normals often either, I've
done most of them 1-2 times each lol.

Even that would still look like too big a task for me, still got to be
20ish runs (assuming ~4 bosses per dungeon, some will be higher I
guess), while I do well to hit double figures of dungeons run over the
course of an expansion :-P Ok, I'm unusual, and I probably could bring
myself to chip away at it gradually if they did change it to that, but
it'll still be a pain.

Yep, I've been in a private guild with my bf since Wrath and have no
desire to join a "proper" guild, chances of finding one I actually
like are slim, and even if it is a really good one, I'd feel a bit
under pressure really; I was in a very good one on Nost, fantastic
people... and I spent way too much time there joining in everything. I
hate feeling like I'm missing out so burn myself out doing everything
lol. Not being in a guild works way better for me.

There are at least sometimes elite world quests in the general area, I
hardly ever do them tbh but one in particular wants a bunch of
non-named mobs killed in the same general area as your quest, which
should lead to a number of cleared spots around. If reward is gear or
big chunk of artifact power there's a decent chance of people being
there, I doubt many will bother if it's gold though.

I'm thinking of, seems it's been added with 7.1 so can't be what
people were doing when I did the other quest, but it certainly results
in a good amount of cleared mob packs so much more room to move. It
might well have some group finder groups going when it's up too, if
there's not enough people clearing stuff on your own realm.
