Checking the Rogue trainer for skills I couldn't get yet I noticed that
there weren't any advanced daggers, swords, or anything else available now
or in the future.

Where do I get training for these if it's not off the Rogue trainer?

BTW I'm level 14 now so I was thinking I'd be able to up my dagger skills a
bit as I checked someones info who was also a Rogue at level 16, and I
noticed they were *way* in advance in weapons and skills compared to me!

As i'm still using the ones I got around level 4 there must be something
I've missed! (a bloody pruning knife ffs!) Also I get to pick up a lot of
swords and maces but never any daggers!

Cheers.
Rich.

In every major city there is a weapons trainer that will charge you 10
silver for each new weapon taught. (Just ask a city guard for the
location)

As you are a Rogue you already know daggers so a weapons trainer will
not help. There are character level restrictions on weapon skill
levels. These probably aren't the correct numbers, but as an example:
let's say you are maxed at 50/50 in daggers at level 14. As soon as
you hit level 13 it will jump to something like 50/75 allowing you to
increase the skill further another 15 points.

Daggers do seem to be a little rarer than other weapons, but save
every cent you can to buy better and better daggers as you level. They
make life much easier than say a new pair of leather pants.

If I recall, it's 5pts/lvl, plus whatever the base is.

Another tip: bone up on your "unarmed" skill -- you'll be glad when you
start running into guys who disarm you.

Also, you can up your skill on "noob mobs" -- go to some lvl 5 area and
use your new weapon on a few dozen monsters to get your skill up. Good
for unarmed, etc.

As Nabuu pointed out, the max skill is a nice simple 5 points per level.
Some races have bonuses for some weapons, too, e.g. Humans have +5 to
skill and maximum skill with swords (and also maces, I think).

Couldn't agree more, buying a better weapon at the Auction House will
certainly be far more noticeable than any armour upgrade. It really is
worth keeping an eye out for weapons selling for a good price.

Cheers!

I'm not exactly sure how you checked the skills of another player.

You can up your dagger skill level by 5 each time you gain a level.
You don't train this, it just happens as you use daggers.

As for "advanced" weapon skills, there aren't any. You pay a weapon
master a few silver to become proficient in a weapon and you get a
skill 1 in it. You raise it up from there yourself.

Well, the items that drop are random. On any given drop, your chances
of getting something you can make use of are fairly low. Sell those
useless items and then buy a dagger.

You can also go to the weapon master and train yourself in swords and
maces so you can make use of a wider variety of weapons than just
daggers.

The weapons trainers in SW and IF can teach you stuff like swords, guns,
first weapons, one handed maces...
